Petersburg school board discussed a curfew survey by Superintendent L L Wingard. They urge council approval of proposed curfew rules based on age groups, with 10 30 p m under 14 and 11 p m for 14 and over on school nights, and 12 30 a m on weekends and holidays, plus blinking lights to signal curfew.
The newly elected library board convened on Thursday with Carroll Clauser as outgoing president. Mrs Ed Locken is named president with Mrs C A Wilder as vice president and Mrs Tink Martin as secretary treasurer.
Petersburg briefed on arrival of Police Chief Bill Anderson and assistant Ralph Young who flew to Seattle and returned Thursday after a short air trip.

The Petersburg Music Club presents a Christmas concert at the high school Friday evening December 19 at 8 o’clock. Director William P. Harrison says most of the program is choral works with the high school band joining in final numbers. Proceeds aid the Music Club treasury. Grade school children sell tickets at 75 cents each.
The Petersburg post office expects its largest ever loading Monday December 15 with 550 sacks and 42 tons of mail plus outside pieces. Postmaster Dick Brennan appeals for public cooperation to avoid delaying town mail, stresses quick removal of C O D parcels and paying upon pickup to prevent backlogs.
A Presbyterian Sunday School program on Friday evening December 19 features a choir directed by Mrs. Amy Hollingstad with Mrs. Dave Phillips at piano. The group rehearsed for weeks and will perform Christmas numbers along with recitations and songs by Sunday School children at the Sons of Norway hall.
A town council special meeting convened Monday evening and approved all liquor licenses for Petersburg.
Miss Gertrude Sipple public health nurse reports Kake residents have donated funds for a new hospital under construction. She visited Petersburg December 4 and noted the Kake Health Council recently held a money raising party and food sale to support the project.
Youngsters in the junior band, under William P. Harrison, appeared at the PTA meeting in the school auditorium. Norman Heimdahl presided over the business portion, with discussion on playfield equipment to be purchased. The Town Chorus, directed by Capt. George Lloyd and Patricia Concannon at the piano, closed the program with a Silent Night encore. Lloyd announced a January 16 hospital fund concert.
The CAA station logged a high of 37 degrees and a low of 18 to 17, with 0.47 inches of rain and three inches of snow melting to a trace. A year ago a trace fell Dec 12 after 11 inches that week, with 3.21 inches rainfall. The week high reached 43 on Dec 10 and low 24 on Dec 6.
Mr and Mrs Olof Wikan flew to Seattle on Thursday to spend the holiday with their son Leif a student at WSC.
The Hospital Guild carnival netted 1429 for the hospital fund with an additional 372.50 from a beef project, totaling 179.20. Local committee members thanked townspeople and Alaska Crippled Children’s Association for support. Sons of Norway hall hosted games, booths, and food as most groups contributed to a successful event.
Judges narrowed November entries to two with equal cash prize of five dollars for Patricia Concannon and Kenny Burton both seventh graders in Mr. Lunds class. Mrs. Mabel Faber observes her first year in business with an open house at the Dora Mae Shoppe on Saturday December 13 from 2:30 to 4:30. Guests include Grace Montgomery and staff helpers Adolph Mathisen Marvin Kvernvik and Ernest Enge with cake and coffee served.
President Truman denounces Eisenhower’s Korea trip as demagoguery and says no useful White House meeting with Ike and MacArthur. He recalls declining a Korean campaign pledge to go before Christmas and blasts wage policy with plans to extend controls past April 30.
The annual Eastern Star pot luck supper for members and families will be held Wednesday evening Dec 17 at the Sons of Norway hall. A 6 30 dinner precedes the entertainment with a decorated Christmas tree as the focal point. Mr and Mrs Perry Langley flew south this week and Langley will be admitted to a Seattle hospital for medical treatment.
