In Ketchikan the wealthy bootlegger known as Black Matt Berkovich fired four shots through Phil Dohm killing him instantly before turning the gun on himself. Witness Phil Bohm had been slated to testify for the government and both men were out on bail at the Mint cafe and rooming house when the confrontation occurred.

Community Christmas Tree to Shine in Petersburg
A Petersburg celebration includes a city lit Christmas tree near the bandstand to be tranmed with lighting effects. Petersburg High School faculty and Commercial Club members plan a four o clock program with piano music and carols, candy bags for children, and a December 23 gift exchange. Renahan Search Abandoned After Navy Planes Meet Silence
Two naval planes led by Lieut. C F Greber arrived in Seattle on December 8 after an unsuccessful search for Pilot Robin Renahan and his two companions Sam Clerf and Frank Hatcher. Renahan was last seen October 28 over Lucy Island near Prince Rupert B C. Authorities believe he was searching for Pilot E J A Burke and companions Emil Kaeling and Bob Martens. Despite extensive searches along the British Columbia coast and the southeastern Alaska coast, no trace of the missing plane or crew has been found.
