Power plant knocked out by mud at Ketchikan
Ketchikan Public Utilities reports its new hydro plant between Upper Lake Silvis and the lower lake was buried in mud and debris Thursday night. Manager Elmer Titus said the plant will be out of service this winter with 2100 kilowatts of firm power affected, and that damage is not yet estimable. He noted unprecedented flooding and a new waterfall on the mountain above the lakes.
