The Petersburg Packing Co ends the salmon season with 90 000 cases while August Buschmann at Port Althorp is believed to have set a new record by handling 200 000 cases with a four line cannery. Dr. R G Smith of Portland takes over the practice of local dentist Dr. R M MacKenzie who moves to Ketchikan to join Dr. Wallace M Peterson. A new dam at the city water works progresses and is expected to be ready in one month.

Florentino Norona Dies at 61 in Petersburg Hospital
Florentino T. Norona aged 61 died Monday at Petersburg General Hospital after several weeks of illness. Born February 5 1887 in Oras Samar Philippines he worked this season as cannery foreman for North Pacific Canning Co in Scow Bay. A single known relative is his niece Mrs Margaret Bank of Berkeley California.

Day Says Salmon Season Very Poor
Albert M. Day of the Fish and Wildlife Service said Alaska faces its poorest salmon fishing season in history. Through the third week in August Southeastern Alaska had 80,000 cases of pink salmon vs 340,000 a year ago. Bristol Bay sockeye fishing was somewhat better. The salmon pack is Alaska’s chief income source and many communities are affected by the poor catch.

In Ketchikan on August 23 a large initial tuna offering of about 47 000 pounds was posted at the Ketchikan Fish Exchange but local buyers were not meeting fishermen price expectations.
