Fisheries Research To Explore Bering Sea Summers
The United States will launch new fisheries research in the Bering Sea this summer. The 100 foot vessel Washington will sail from Seattle August 20 with 2 crew of 12 including two fisheries engineers and a biologist. The mission, led by Milton C. James, aims to find additional species to supplement salmon and halibut industries on the American side of the International Date Line.

Peter Joseph Philbin aged 67 longtime Petersburg resident died Monday in his apartment. Born March 25, 1881 in Dovies Town Ohio he came to the west coast early, worked as a traveling salesman and settled in Petersburg in 1933. Survived by three brothers one sister and four children. Mass held at St Catherine's Catholic church with interment in Petersburg cemetery.

Cannery operators report a weak start to the season with few salmon deliveries and small buyer activity.
