Clark and associates have offered to buy the company from its bankruptcy plan with a proposed sale price of 220000. Creditors would receive 24 cents on the dollar immediately, while other plans promise 28 cents over 10 to 15 years. Clark expects takeover by November 1 if creditors approve, and outlines proposed franchise and rate steps for towns Wrangell Petersburg and Haines. He and his Seattle investors deny tax write off motives and plan to operate the system with Clark as manager.

World record 36 pound chum salmon displayed at cannery
A 36 pound chum salmon, also called a dog salmon, was brought to the Pacific American Fisheries Cannery after being captured in a local fish trap. It measures thirty nine and a half inches and tops the current world record for chums until a bigger specimen is found. T. F. Smith of Petersburg district is arranging to have the fish mounted, with scale samples taken for study.

Barracuda catches and Gulf tuna sighted amid SE Alaska weather
In SE Alaska two barracuda were landed recently with one turned into FWS Wrangell after a catch at Anan Creek. Tuna have been sighted in the Gulf of Alaska while a southern fish moved north. Petersburg district salmon pack runs 184,914 cases this year versus 112,130 in 1957 at the same point.

Libby, McNeil and Libby Salmon Cannery pleaded guilty to a fishery regulation violation over a trap at Cape Fanshaw. U S Commissioner Vernon Counter fined the cannery $1850. Kenneth Hardhwick, vice president, represented Libby. In Wrangell Otis Groves pleaded guilty to seven bad checks. Commissioner Joel Wing fined $10 per count.

Alaska reports strong pink runs across regions with a Cook Inlet extension from August 2 to 9 allowing two extra 48 hour fishing periods. Port Dick and Nushagak River catches may set records as escapement tops 750000 fish and Bristol Bay could reach 50000 cases. Herring Areas Opened In Northern Panhandle

Senate Committee Approves Five Year Fish Loan Plan
The Senate Commerce Committee backed a five year program to revitalize domestic fishing with loans and construction differentials. A Saltonstall bill would authorize 110 million dollars for fisheries loans extending terms to 20 years and 5 million for 20 year, 20 percent loans to processors in distressed areas. The interior secretary would provide construction differentials up to 33 1 3 percent, with ten million dollars for vessels and five million for modernization in distressed areas.
