Large King Salmon In Juneau District Draws Inquiries
Alaska fish official C. L. Anderson reports many questions about unusually large king salmon in salt water sport catches near Juneau. Most are six years old, some seven, with life stages spanning freshwater to ocean. Kings grew from four inches to over three feet, with some weighing 40 pounds or more. Roy Connor wins the Juneau Golden North Salmon Derby with a 44 pound 8 ounce king and a 1958 Chevrolet plus tax payout. Merle Rhodes takes second prize with a one pound king.

Three Alaska boat crew fined in game law case
Arcadia Tagaban pleaded guilty to three Alaska game law violations on the vessel GJOA including hunting without a license and deer taken out of season. Arcadio Tagaban Jr and Albert Sakamoto were fined for participating in deer taken out of season. The case stemmed from a July 29 incident near Swan Island observed by a Fish and Wildlife plane.

Seal Bounty Funds Run Out Due to Heavy Killings
Juneau reports the 1957 territorial legislature bounty for hair seals is exhausted. Treasurer Hugh J. Wade says no bounties can be paid until a new appropriation is passed.
