The September term of the sixth judicial district court convened in Alamogordo with Hon. Edward A. Mann presiding on September 2. The grand jury listed I. M. Parker as foreman and others. Numerous civil cases were called with various dispositions including judgments by default, dismissals, attachments, and continuations to the next term.
A series of court notes shows cases in Alamogordo with attorneys Wharton & Lawson for defendants and Sherry for plaintiffs. Dockets include Pierce Co. versus Eva Ferguson, Rosalino Baldonado versus Michael McDonald, and others. motions, demurrers, and trial dates set for September term. The text then shifts to a long essay discussing Maya and other ancient American cultures, sun worship, calendars, and the origins of Christmas.
The article discusses Mayas and other ancient American races, noting their civilizations, mental attainments, religions, and aesthetics. It mentions an eclipse marked as Venus transit visible in Yucatan, and asserts many ancient assertions can be verified today without leaving New Mexico, including their grand pyramids and roads.
The New Mexico annual conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South will meet in Alamogordo starting September 1. Bishop Seth Ward of Houston Texas will preside. About fifty delegates including presiding elders pastors and delegates will attend with daily sessions through Sunday. An entertainment committee is arranging hospitality for attendees.
The mineral springs east of town at the Sacramento mountains have been sold from Lynch and Hartsfield to Barrett and Price of Alamogordo. The new owners plan immediate tunneling into the mountain to access the main flow and to build a large health resort with modern bathing amenities and comprehensive therapeutic uses of the waters.
Bishop Kendrick said St John’s Episcopal church in Alamogordo will receive a regular minister and full services will resume. Rev Easter of El Paso and the bishop will attend the eastern convention where a minister for St John’s will be chosen. Parish membership has risen and permanent funds are available to support a minister.
