Prestridge Lumber Co Grants Wage Increases to Sawmill Workers
A new contract between the local union of sawmill workers and the M. R. Prestridge Lumber Co. was completed this week. Wages rise with a 18 percent increase and a minimum hourly wage of 83 cents across operations from planing mill to woods. Average wage is $1.32. The deal also provides one week paid vacation for 1–5 years service and two weeks for more than five years. Terms retroactive to May 1. No labor unrest reported.

A stove top linseed oil flare exploded at the Thomason home on New York Ave. causing severe burns to Mrs. Thomason, Miss Dorothy Longwell and Mr. Thomason. Longwell died at Rousseau hospital while Thomason remained in critical condition. Firefighters and relatives assisted in extinguishing the flames and the family mourns the loss amid injuries.

Lumber mill paving to close 8th Street crossing for week
Prestridge Lumber Co will pave from the mill over the 8th Street railroad crossing to Pennsylvania Avenue to support new hauling operations. Forest Fire Rages Across 700 Acres Near Weed
Forest officials were alerted Friday to a blaze at the head of Wayland Canyon in the Sessions sawmill cutover near Weed. Strong winds pushed flames to about 700 acres before containment. Sixteen Springs Sawmill Burns in New Mexico
