Sheriff Raids Open Gambling Slot Machines Monday
Sheriff Ray Prather and deputies raided open gambling equipment Monday night. About six slot machines and punch boards were seized from Plaza Bar, Tennessee's Bar, Henry's Bar, Armijo's Store, and Jimmie's Place cafe. The News reports the sudden death of J A Lewis at his Norman Oklahoma home on Monday May 12 his funeral was held May 14 with interment in Norman He and family lived in Alamogordo from 1928 to 1935 where they were active in societies and church work Lewis served as a town trustee He is survived by wife two sons Jula Shawnee Okla and Tolan El Paso Tex a daughter Maurine Osborn Enid Okla two brothers A E Lewis Sulphur Okla Ben Lewis Chickasha Okla three sisters Mrs Lee Key Hickory Mrs Henry Ford Tulsa and Mrs Elizabeth Witchet Hickory and six grandchildren Born in Kentucky in 1882 he had run a grocery and variety store since leaving Alamogordo.

Guided German V-2 Goes Out of Control Over Alamogordo
Last Thursday afternoon May 15 a German rocket flew erratically over Alamogordo and exploded near Indian Wells two and a half miles northeast of town. Army planes searched the crash area while a citizen detail guarded recovered rocket sections and cargo. The nose carried spectrographs and cameras. the midsection held a cosmic ray recorder and other devices. rye seed was included for exposure tests.

Winners Named in Otero County Slogan Contest
Mrs. Jean Chittum and Irving Seligman shared the $15 prize for the town slogan contest run by the Otero County Hospital Association. They donated Chittum’s share to the hospital. Child Injured in Garage Shellac Explosion
Ralph Petty Jr. was burned when a shellac can exploded in the family garage last Tuesday at 11 am. Dr Turner treated him and he was taken to El Paso with his parents and grandparents. Burns cover feet to hips and the boy remains in danger.

Sage to Organize Alamogordo National Guard Unit
General Sage will visit Alamogordo in June to establish a National Guard unit of 96 enlisted men and four officers. Captain Robert M. Walker said the new unit would join the 716th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion with Deming headquarters, later expanding to four thousand troops statewide.

Curb On Water Use May End Next Monday
Alamogordo plans to end the current domestic water restrictions by next Monday if the city meets the mayor’s compliance standards and the water pumping rate holds. A new pump arrived and began operation improving output to about 130 gallons per minute, with 700 gpm from Alamo Canyon springs, plus possible external supply from Luther Base well piping for the Air Base. The town board authorized up to 60 090 dollars in revenue bonds to fund pumping from the earthen reservoir and to buy jumping and chlorination equipment as army and railroad officials seek priority pipe.

Three Juveniles Remanded to Springer by Juvenile Court
Sheriff Ray Prather returned from the Boys State Correctional School at Springer with three minors after a Friday hearing before Judge J L Lawson. Mrs. Soledad G Munoz died soon after a collision near Alamogordo while others including Recindo Munoz and the Lunas were injured. A Jeep driven by intoxicated sailors had been stolen. The Luna infant survived unharmed. Robberies occurred during the incident with $173 from Munoz and $8 from Mrs Luna taken during care.
