About 75 people gathered at the Old Choza 26 miles southwest of Alamogordo to dedicate the site as a Rhodes shrine. Speakers recalled Rhodes's memory and his Western tales, with remarks by Tom Charles and Will Robinson and a performance by Elizabeth Garrett. The site, linked to Paso Por Aqui, will be preserved by Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce under Mrs. E. B. Lewis, with the aim of honoring Rhodes and the Southwest’s cattle-country tradition.

Santa Fe May 19 The State Highway Department seeks a 250000 federal grant as part of 750000 in flood and winter highway damages. Engineer Burton Dwyre cites 250000 in Rio Grande flood losses and 500000 on the east side, with total costs near 750000. He notes a 175000 bridge replacement at San Antonio was swept away.

Rhodes family visits in memory of Eugene Rhodes
Mrs Eugene Manlove Rhodes of Pacific Beach Calif and her son Alan Rhodes with wife and daughter Ary Lou arrived Saturday night as guests of Mr and Mrs Olie Norton for memorial services. They attended the Rhodes pass dedicatory service Monday at noon and the Eugene Rhodes Memorial Hall dedication at State College at 4 p m. Then they went to El Paso and Van Horn Texas before returning Tuesday night for visits with friends in town and at Tularosa.

Death Comes Suddenly To Mrs Henry Virden
Mrs. Henry Virden died suddenly at her La Luz home while preparing breakfast. The 72 year old Otero County resident, active as a pioneer teacher, founded La Luz nursery school and taught in rural schools for years.
