Alamogordo civic interest grows as the Breece Lumber Co seeks to supply power and hints at keeping the city light plant. Alamogordo abstractors are urged to finish abstracts by May 20, while the Breece group asks about a rental house in town.
Shorty Miller in a six passenger Buick-6 touring car completed 257 miles from Alamogordo to Santa Fe in six hours thirty minutes carrying six men. The 46 mile stretch between Durango and Santa Fe averaged around 60 mph while the overall trip neared forty mph. The article notes improving road conditions may lead to a new record and anticipates future faster runs.
A formal announcement from Mrs Chesley H Thomason declares candidacy for County Treasurer, contingent on Democratic party action. She pledges party loyalty and allegiance as expected by the party.
In the Third Judicial District of New Mexico case 2490 foreclosure, H J Tinsley and Ida Tinsley sue Lucille Ferlet to recover 1500 plus interest and 10 percent attorneys fees and to foreclose a mortgage on six acres in Otero County. Albert F. Burch announces his candidacy for sheriff of Otero County New Mexico as a Democrat. The notice is addressed to Democratic voters and states submission subject to party action.
The Alamogordo Woman's Club notes the 200 dollar head of family personal property exemption under the 1921 tax law and explains its impact. An American Pottery exhibit hosted at the Alamogordo Hotel by Mr and Mrs Meade drew local and out of town visitors, selling most Van Briggle ware. The club's next meeting, led by Mrs BE D McKinley, will be in September.
The Board of County Commissioners of Otero County New Mexico met in Alamogordo on May 3 1926 with all members present. They approved claims 9272 to 9511 paid from county funds and examined butchers bonds for Dominguez Wilson Brown. Equalization hearings reduced several properties taxes and penalties, and budget preparations were ordered with expenses and estimates due June 7 1926 after missing State Tax Commission data. The meeting adjourned with Chase Thomas chair and W D Bryars clerk.
E. F. Funk pledges loyal support to the Democratic ticket and vows to work to secure the party’s choice at the convention and to win the election if selected.

The Southern Pacific company seeks to close the Sth street crossing over the tracks. County and town records show the crossing was legally established long ago and recognized by the railway companies. The railroad cites danger, noting the crossing is the only route to points west of Alamogordo aside from a nearly unused crossing nearby.

A Alamogordo Las Cruces Roswell group met the State Highway Commission in Santa Fe to win state aid for a new Alamogordo to Las Cruces road. Funds total 12000 with 3500 for Organ Pass grade reduction. Route may differ from current path and be ready by July.
Project 106 Section B completes a 12 mile sand dune route between Oro Grande and Newman. Costing 181000 funded by the U.S. Government and New Mexico, the segment reduces travel time to about 2½ hours for the 90 mile run to El Paso. Officials anticipate Sections A and B totaling 20 miles will follow.

Santa Fe Transportation company reports 5 000 persons booked to tour Santa Fe this summer via the Indian Detour line opened recently. First tourist group arrived in Albuquerque Friday night as Fred Harvey Inc invests about a half million dollars in La Fonda hotel the Thomas Motor Company's garage and a fleet of autos and 21 passenger stages. Detour passengers will be picked up from Las Vegas and Albuquerque trains.
Roswell New Mexico May 15 The Oasis ranch Pearson Bros completed a record artesian well in Pecos valley now delivering 60 000 barrels of water per hour from a 12.12 inch casing. Officials measured the flow and project daily output near one and a half million barrels. The 780 foot well floods ditches on the Oasis ranch as they are enlarged to handle the volume.
Francisco, May 7 A California railroad official says careless motorists who crash into locomotives or cross gates will be sued to recover costs. J B Newman claims attorney for the Southern Pacific notes past settlements range from a few hundred dollars to thousands, with injuries and gate damage mounting. The policy aims to deter drivers who speed to beat trains, asserting it will become expensive to risk lives and property.
The Alamogordo high school Senior Class will hold commencement at HL S auditorium on Thursday night May 20 at 8 00. The program featured invocations, salutatory and valedictory remarks, a class prophecy, a violin solo, and diploma presentations by Mr KEPP Rees, president of the school board, with Judge W D Bryars and Dr C A Duncan among speakers. Tuesday afternoon from four to six Mrs Roland entertained at her New York avenue home in honor of her daughter Miss Ruth Roger. Out of town guests included Miss Edna Ernest Santa Fe Mrs George Eg xleston Mrs A G Foster Mrs J Waterman and others. The Rolland home was decorated in pink with roses. Ruth Roger becomes a bride next Tuesday May 24 at St James Episcopal church Alamogordo with Bishop Mitchello of Arizona officiating.
Conway Pierce, now based in Peoria, Illinois, but raised in this region, says the White Sands will become a significant commercial asset. He recently requested a copy of Mr. Methiases’s report on the sands and their potential extent and satire.
On last Saturday the Alwoogarde school board selected Troi inianiy itty or sidty applications. The chosen candidate was Ro AL McLeskey, former superintendent of Lordsburg New Mexico schools for six years, reelected for the coming year. He holds a BA from Baker College Texas and an MA from the University of Arizona. He met the board in person recently and previously served as county superintendent of schools in Texas for three years.
Earl Stephens of Weed New Mexico announces his bid for Commissioner of the Third District subject to the Democratic county convention in Alamogordo on June 12 1926.
An authorized announcement states Lebreton is a candidate for Otero County treasurer subject to Democratic party action. If he wins convention and general election he would be a competent county official with six years as Alamogordo city clerk and secretary of the Commercial Club and other groups.
On May 11 a burglary at Scipio and Wilhelm yielded knives and razors. A crutch tip and a fan on a northbound train connected to town led to a quick arrest. In Santa Fe the burglar, named J. B Chandler aged about 30, faced a sentence of less than three years. Alejandro Hernandez and Jose Haea were also moved for prior offenses. Hernandez was caught at a sister’s home with officers raiding multiple spots. he faced a prison term after sentencing. Heavily guarded, Hernandez’s capture was punctuated by a quip from the sister. Hernandez was sent toward the pen while Haea pleaded guilty to second degree murder and received six to ten years. The sheriff and deputies returned with the prisoners Tuesday.
Mrs Tlarry Brisom died Tuesday May 15 in Abiumogorde at age 22. She came here as a health seeker in September last year. The body was shipped to her former home at Meedyville Missouri, accompanied by her husband and the deceased’s father Mrs J EB Grove.
The First Baptist Church of Alamogordo announces a weekly Wednesday evening service as a community tradition. Members and the general public are urged to join and support the midweek gathering as part of the church’s program.
Norma Wesley of Oakland California and Hotland A. Kramer of Mort Worth Texas were married on May 16 in Alamogordo by Judge Staleupore.
