107 Seniors In Otero County To Graduate
The five high schools in Otero County plan graduation programs this week with 107 seniors earning diplomas. Cloudcroft its seven graduates and the School for the Blind four attend Wednesday. Weed schedules 15 on Thursday. Alamogordo 61 and Tularosa 20 graduate on Friday. Dr. Martin Cole of Eastern New Mexico College will deliver the main address at the School for the Blind and Alamogordo High School.

Plan To Extend Phone Service In Sacramentos

Plan Paving For Cox Canyon Road This Summer
M R Prestridge of the State Highway Commission, with Louis Ruffin and Ray Moore, to lead a state highway crew for cross sections on the 17 mile Cox Canyon route from Cloudcroft to Denney Bridge. Music Classes For Students Offered Again This Year
Alamogordo Schools offer a five week summer music program directed by Win Rhoads and Miss Bettye Dennis. Beginning June 15, students in band and orchestra may enroll with rental options for instruments and optional private study with the instructors.
Gage Wins Stamp Awards in New Mexico Show
Fred Gage earned three awards at the New Mexico Philatelic Association and Albuquerque Philatelic Society meeting in Albuquerque held May 12 to 15. He received two second prizes for German and Army Navy collections and one third prize for National Park stamps. Gage was reelected to the NMPA board. At the banquet, noncompetitive certificates of merit were mailed to Archbishop Cardinal Spellman and others for their stamp collections. Spellman’s collection was a featured exhibit. The next convention will be in Carlsbad in November with possible Alamogordo meeting during the Otero County Fair in September. about three thousand visitors attended the Albuquerque displays.

Nogal Family Loses Home In Sunday Canyon Fire
Sunday afternoon about three o clock a fire destroyed the Nogal Canyon home of Mr and Mrs Alvino Saenz near Bent. The family seven children aged fourteen and under were left destitute with only the clothes they wore. Neighbors and relief agencies including the American Red Cross Alamogordo chapter the Salvation Army Welfare Fund and the county board of commissioners provided aid. Mr Saenz who has a small Nogal Canyon farm has lived nearby all his life and works for the Walkers of Sixteen Springs Canyon when not tending his farm.

Summer Athletic Program Opens For School Aged
Coach Rolla Buck of Alamo gordo school system will start a summer recreational program for school children this month. It includes swimming classes for ages six and up beginning May 30 with weekly sessions and a pool fee of 85 cents. About 100 students are expected to register as last year. Red Cross tests will be awarded to meriting participants. A junior softball league for 6th 7th and 8th graders will form class teams with practices and Round Robin games on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 pm as a lead‑in to town league play.

Second Drowning Of Child In Tularosa Ditch
Little Camilla Floise Gutierrez, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ricardo Gutierrez of Tularosa, drowned Thursday May 12 after falling into an irrigation ditch. Rescue efforts with a pull motor lasted 2.5 hours. Funeral conducted Saturday at St Francis Church with four young pallbearers. Interment in Tularosa Catholic Cemetery. Father Linus presided. the father is a Holloman AFB civilian employee.

Harry Richard Lee aged 63 died on a west bound Golden State train between Carrizoto and Alamogordo about 10:30 Saturday. An inquest found death from natural causes due to a chronic malady. he was an asthmatic traveling from Chicago to Tucson with his wife. The body was prepared by L. & M Mortuary and shipped to Chicago. Lee had been an insurance salesman in Chicago and was a New York City native.

Highway Crash on 70 Injures El Paso Couple
