Rock Slide Closes Route 83 Delays Traffic Near High Rolls
A heavy dirt and rock slide on Highway 83 west of the High Rolls Tunnel diverted traffic for six hours Monday. The Bureau of Public Roads aid crews cleared a path by 11 a.m. using two bulldozers, with main slide timing set between 4:45 and 4:50 p.m. Eyewitnesses and victims described dense dust as debris was moved and an oil paving section torn up, to be replaced after engineer survey.

Scoggin Seeks Budget Increase for Grand Jury Session
Judge W T Scoggin applied to the State Comptroller for a 5000 boost to the Otero County court fund for a Grand Jury session. The revised request totals 20500 for the next fiscal year starting July 1. State Refuses Tularosa Sewer Water Bonds

The city started a fly suppression program on Monday under city manager B E Rutz and will run through warm months. Spraying uses a mixture of chlor dane DDT and benzine hexachlor ide with spraying crews ordered to cover garbage cans horse corrals the dump and other likely breeding spots. The garbage disposal crew burns each trash load but spraying is an added precaution at the dump grounds.
