Passing Of Mrs. Kate Steele Oliver
Mrs. Kate Oliver died at home in the east part of the city after a two year illness. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church with Eastern Star and Masons in attendance. She had long Baptist faith ties and was active in civic groups. Survived by two children Muriel and Steele and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Otero County Children to be Hospitalized at Hot Springs
Seven Otero County children will be taken to the Carrie Tingley Hospital at Hot Springs this month under arrangements by the Otero County Welfare Committee. Mrs Kiel Bonnell of Tularosa will accompany the children, donating use of her car. The committee met and adjourned for the summer months, to reconvene Sept 7. Hatchet Mountain Water Project Aids Wildlife And Livestock
The Grazing Service and State Game Department join in a wildlife water development on Hatchet Mountain New Mexico. Three rubble dams store about 12 acre feet, aiding big horn sheep and cattle. Construction ran Aug 1940 to Feb 1941 with CCC labor and private donations, costing around $5000.

Pioneer San Andreas stockman proves up 47 year homestead
Tom McDonald a San Andreas Mountains pioneer stockman appeared before U S Commissioner Tom Charles in Alamogordo to finalize proof on his homestead after 47 years of residence. Absence of a government survey delayed proof though he recalls buckboard days and Apache Kid forays as neighbors. The McDonalds built a premier Southwest ranch, sold 153 sections but kept 90 for Mocking Bird Ranch, and will move to Tularosa with their three sons taking over the ranch operations.

Sudden Death Of Aged Sawmill Worker
Calvert C. Crane, 70, retired sawmill worker, died suddenly on the street corner at Ninth and New York. Witnesses said he fell forward from a seated position, dying moments later. A coroner's jury ruled death from coronary occlusions with tuberculosis noted. He was a native of Texas and had lived in New Mexico and Alamagordo. He was unmarried and survived by two brothers and two nieces.

About 110 new voters will be honored inclduing those just reached 21 and newly naturalized citizens. The Alamogordo School band and Tularosa School Chorus will perform. Capt Ward of NM history will give the main address and Judge Numa Frenger will administer the oath of citizenship.

New CCC Enrollment Rules Allow Immediate Joiners
The Civilian Conservation Corps announces flexible enrollment, permitting eligible youths to join any camp by applying to its commander. Requirements include US citizenship, age 17 to 23, unemployment, no school attendance, and consent to monthly allotments of 15 or 22 dollars, with a six month minimum enrollment.

W S Tanner longtime El Paso and Southwestern Railroads employee died at his Ohio Avenue home after a three week illness including paralysis and pneumonia. Born November 9 1875 in Indiana he lived in Oklahoma and Arkansas before moving to the Southwest in 1912. He retired as section foreman in 19 9 8. Survived by widow Estelle Roman six children two daughters and three sons. Funeral conducted by Warren A Henry at the Church of Christ with interment in the local cemetery.

Vermont Avenue paving petition lingers for inclusion in district
