Spencer & Wofford of Las Cruces is the low bidder and a contract award will likely be made on an item basis. About $100,000 is the total cost with $90,000 from bonds. Fire destroys furniture store and damages Gilbert building
A Sunday fire gutted the lower floor of the Gilbert building on New York avenue, causing $6,000 in furniture stock losses and $2,500 to the building. The adjacent Loggains building suffered $200 damage. Volunteer firefighters contained the blaze, which may have started in the rear of the furniture store, with officials citing a stray spark from an incinerator as a possible cause.
