Ortega Endorses Grand Jury Move
In a voluntary interview with the Alamogordo News this week Donanciano Ortega uncle of the late Mrs. Mary Ortega Walters identified Albert Guebara as the leader of the drive to impanel a grand jury to probe the shooting and the investigators methods. Ortega said others assisted with petitions and circulation while Guebara first notified the family of his plan and endorsed the action as a public service. He praised the officers but cautioned they had not uncovered enough evidence for a trial.

Ill in Las Cruces Judge W T Scoggin says he will call a Grand Jury for Otero County after July 1 to probe county affairs. He cites health and lack of funds with only 3193.82 available for June. The motion followed a petition filed April 26 by Helen Shields for immediate action on the Mary Walters murder near Bent. The petition, supported by 240 residents led by Guebara Granados Gonzales Ortega and Telles, seeks a grand jury convening forthwith.
