Scout Leader Training Course Begins May 19

Death of Baby Daughter of Lt Warrington
Mrs Edna Stilwell was called to El Paso last Thursday by the sudden death of Lt R P Warringtons infant daughter. The baby was buried Friday in a military cemetery near El Paso. Lt and Mrs Warrington plan to move to Alamogordo this week. The mother will stay with her own mother while Lt Warrington serves in Japan, with sailing orders set for June 20.

Passing Of J. M. Hawkins Former Resident Here
J. M. Hawkins 88 former Alamogordo resident died May 3 1947 at his home in El Paso after a long career as a newspaper man and postmaster of Alamogordo from 1902 to 1914. He survived by a brother Horace Hawkins a Denver attorney a daughter Mrs T H Williams and granddaughter Miss Julia Williams and a sister Mrs Jeff Luten of Tennessee. He helped publish the Silver City Enterprise in 1885 and was later part owner of the El Paso News and connected with the El Paso Herald. He valued Alamogordo news and often wrote the editor. a Republican turned liberal later, his life reflected western development and public service.

NMSE Music Pupils in Spring Concert
The New Mexico School for the Blind hosted a spring concert Wednesday evening featuring Harry Duwler and Abram Kamin ky’s music department. The junior chorus performed, Silviano Chacon played violin, Richard Edgar offered a piano solo, the senior chorus of about 25 voices sang several numbers, the orchestra performed, Greg oria Archuleta gave a solo, and Juan Lopes did a piano piece among selections including One World Galway Piper and Lovely Spring Tone.

The Hospital drive in Otero County finished strong with a gross of 7321.14 from the auction sale and carnival. The Palomino horse event raised 1166.00, thanks to O O Martin and Donad Gregg for their roles and venue. A target of 5000.00 remains to reach the goal of 95000.00, with plans for a June street dance and a Dodge car award.
