Governor Curry Endorses Regents and Discusses Pierce Case

Governor George Curry visited Santa Fe on Monday, meeting the New Mexico Blind asylum board. He defended the regents, said Pierce’s prosecution rests with the courts, and noted his past actions. He discussed good roads funding for Otero County and planned travel to Alamogordo and Tularosa with potential mountain road talks. J. E. Wharton departed for Albuquerque.

New School Board Forms, Chooses Faculty for Team

The newly elected school board met Tuesday and organized with J. H. Murray as president CO W Morgan as clerk and James Hunter as third member. They announced not renewing superintendent R F Shif fler and will hire a new superintendent after reviewing several applications. Several teachers were dropped and a new faculty was hired across auxiliary primary and public schools with Mr Hunk retained as janitor.

Union Church Service Draws Large City Crowd

Taft Nominates New Mexico Supreme Court Judges

President Taft sent to the senate the nominations of Alfred W. Cooley and Merritt C. Mechem for associate justices of the New Mexico Supreme Court. Cooley, assistant attorney general, hails from New York and lives in Silver City. Mechem, born 1870, has served as district attorney and councilman and will likely preside in the Seventh district with headquarters at Socorro. Both appointments expected to be confirmed at the July Supreme Court meeting.

Smelter to Resume in Orogrande Within Month

Dr J A Scott of Orogrande said the Southwestern smelter there will resume operations within the next thirty days. A large force is at work storing fuel and making repairs, promising revived life for Orogrande. H La Salle was in Cloudcroft on business Monday.

Voted School Bonds Pass for New District Building

Monday's election approved $20,000 in bonds for a new two story brick school on the vacant block west of the current building. It will have six rooms and an auditorium and be completed before the upcoming term. Two votes opposed the measure.
