A devastating cyclone hit Bellevue Texas yesterday evening, killing thirteen and injuring ten while destroying $200000 to $500000 worth of property. Fire followed the rains as relief trains arrived with food clothing and money for survivors and a tent near the depot feeds the evacuees.
Secretary Metcalf, returning from San Francisco, informs the President that fatalities may be under 300 with about 1000 injured. Government building losses are smaller than feared, but industrial and commercial damage is vast. Provisions and water are adequate, health is good, and people are hopeful. He urges Congress to authorize immediate appropriation for repair and reconstruction of government buildings.
About 100 sticks of dynamite were found near the El Paso Southwestern railroad at Lewis Springs on a track closely before a passenger train. Report says dynamite rested on both sides of the rail with meticulous placement to explode under the engine. The Bisbee Miner notes the blast could have destroyed the train and killed many aboard.
E Satchott died on May 2 after prolonged whooping cough. Little Thelma born March 6 this year died at a few weeks old. Funeral by Rev W J Wright and burial in the city cemetery. Our sympathy goes to the heartbroken parents.
Prof. Fery Rinardy, violin expert and former court violinist for the Austrian emperor, trained the Oliver sisters in Alamogordo. He praised Miss Avery, Ankie, and Henrie, saying they are already as gifted as seasoned pros and will likely become masters of music with bright reputations.
A grand jury in Roswell New Mexico returned four indictments charging Chester L Tallmadge E R Tallmadge of Chicago B H Tallmadge of Denver Karl C Young and John H McKinstry of Kansas City with land fraud offenses. The charges mirror those in the October indictments to which pleas in abatement were filed and the petit jury earlier found verdicts for all defendants.
A Roswell dispatch dated April 28 reports C L Tallmadge and Chicago brothers were acquitted on all indictments charging land frauds in the Fifth district U S district court. The jury deliberated about twenty minutes after ten days of trials that drew strong attention from U S attorneys and defense counsel.
Prof. Fery Rinardy, former court violinist of the Austrian Emperor, headlined a Railway Club hall recital. He showed thirty years of experience and drew the bow with masterful skill, backed by George Anderson, Herbert Crippen, Mrs. F L Carson, and Mrs. D Warnock on piano. Critics called it the season’s best musical entertainment.

Merchants in El Paso and Alamogordo are urged to advertise locally to capture shopping traffic.
Albany N Y April 27 Albert T Patrick may again seek appeal to the court of appeals if Governor signs a bill passed by the Senate today. The measure allows appeals when a lower court refuses a new trial on grounds of newly discovered evidence, and its wording directly affects Patrick's case.
County board in Alamogordo evaluates road bid for La Luz canyon bridge area and awards contract to C F Bass Harris Thomason for 518 dollars. Readouts approve March 1908 collector report and 1st quarter 1906 justice of the peace bonds, resignations, and new appointments. Multiple supplier and salary payments, rebates for over assessments, and board adjournment.
