State Income Tax Forms Available From County Clerk
Ctero County Clerk's office in the Court House has a supply of New Mexico State Income Tax return forms. Taxpayers may obtain them weekdays 8 30 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 8 30 am to 12 noon. State income tax returns are due at midnight on April 15.

A clear day for voting brought 93 voters to the Otero County Court House Annex up to noon today. County Clerk Mrs. Lucille Alexander said 2,600 registered taxpayers are eligible to vote on a bond issue for a new courthouse.

Boy on Bicycle Hit by Unknown Object Near Lovers Lane
An 8 year old boy, Charles A. Bortfield Jr., was struck while riding near Lovers Lane and Florida Ave. He regained consciousness at home after X rays showed a small penetrating wound near his right eye. Free Immunization Clinic Draws 500 Plus Children
Over 500 children attended the free immunization clinic at the Community Center last week and some were turned away as vaccine supply ran out. A follow up clinic is set for April 19 20 and 21 to serve those previously turned away. Nurses from Alamogordo School and the County Health Department led the event with PTA mothers assisting.

Boulder Knocked Pipe Break in Alamo Canyon Water Line
A boulder from the rim of Alamo Canyon damaged an entire joint of the city water line Sunday morning. City Manager Herbert Holcomb said replacement was immediate and water loss was substantial but the La Luz Canyon reservoir supplied until repairs completed. Repair crews, Holcomb and Water Superintendent Robert O. Pender worked from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The cemetery committee studies proposals from Sacred Gardens Association of El Paso, via Gregory Yelvington, for a one year contract to develop landscape and sell pre-need lots in the eastside of Monte Vidita Cemetery. Pioneer Resident II At Ranch Home
Sam Fairchild, a pioneer resident of Otero County, is ill at his ranch south of Alamogordo but shows gradual improvement. His daughters Mrs M M Cowan of Houston and Mrs W E Thackmorton of Lake Charles La visit with him, joined by his son Tom Fairchild and family. The elder Fairchild settled here in 1887 and has lived continually since.

Three Men Fined for Deer Killing Near Sacramento Mountains
James Green of Alamogordo shot a deer on the west side of the Sacramento Mountains and shared meat with Joe Burrow of Tularosa and J F P Meneley of Alamogordo. They were fined a total of $510, with Green $255, Burrow $150 plus $5 costs, Meneley $105. All pleaded guilty and were released after charges were filed by State Game Patrolman Robert Owens.

C of C Board Rolls Up Sleeves To Get Program Underway
The Chamber of Commerce board plans to meet each Thursday at noon to approve programs of work for the 1954 program. Members were asked at last week’s meeting to submit their plans for approval. 65 Bags of Mail Burn in Car at Escondida
Sixty five bags of mail and unknown parcel post were destroyed when an east bound Imperial No 40 baggage car caught fire near Escondida about 25 miles south of here. Firemen arrived after an 11 15 p m alarm and fought the blaze with section hands present. A hot box spark is suspected though cause is unknown. One report claimed magazines and newspapers were among the loss.

Drone air drone drops near Alamogordo after engine failure
The drone aircraft, launched from a mother plane for an unplanned flight, descended by parachute to a vacant lot on the outskirts of Alamogordo late Thursday. Col. Otto R. Haney of Holloman AFB said wind carried the parachute drone toward the city. no property damage occurred and craft damage was minor.

Mescalero Woman Dies In Home Fire
Augusta Baheda of Mescalero died from suffocation in a Sunday fire at age 77. Funeral services were held Monday at the Dutch Reformed Mission in Mescalero with burial in Mescalero cemetery. She left two sons, Paul and William Evans, both of Mescalero.

Eleven Rural Schools to Compete in County Spelling Bee
The Cloudcroft Lions Club sponsors the county rural schools spelling bee set for April 1 at 10 30 a m in Cloudcroft. Eleven schools plan two contestants per division with first and second in the lower division advancing to the upper. Awards include engraved medals. the county champion will go to the Herald-Post Spelling Bee in El Paso on April 30, with $10 from the Otero County Rural Teachers Association to help cover expenses.

Navy Lt Raymond Kallaus Jr is assigned to a mission at the Pentagon in Washington DC as Assistant In Supply to the Military Defense Air Program Naval Operations. Ike N. Wingfield died after a winter long illness in Tucson Arizona. He served as mayor of Ruidoso and was a pioneer resident born at the Old Mill in Ruidoso. Funeral services will be held in Angus north of Ruidoso. He is survived by relatives in Lincoln and Otero Counties.
