Alamogordo Industry Boom Foreseen by Coal Prospectors

James McMillan and son-in-law John McCrindle of Pittston Pa visited Alamogordo to review the New Mexico Railway and Coal companies projects. McMillan predicted a strong coal field near Capitan and stated multiple industries will soon boost the town’s population and business, including an industry employing 2 000 workers. He praised the Alamogordo & Sacramento Mountain railway as a world class project and noted eastern stockholders are pleased with local management led by the Eddys. He left for Jarilla to inspect mines and express optimism about the future.

Republican Club Elects Officers and Adopts By-Laws at Otero County

The Republican Club of Otero county met and heard the constitution and by-laws report, which was accepted. Officers elected: F. B. Stuart president, W. S. Shepherd vice-president, F. C. Rolland treasurer, H. H. Major secretary. About fifty attendees signed the bylaws. membership may reach 300 soon. A five-member committee was named to propose five men for the executive committee at the next meeting on Wednesday March 28.

James Bullard Passes After Long Illness In La Luz

Obituary notice for James Bullard who died after a stroke and paralysis at age 71 or 72. He lived in the territory about twenty years and in La Luz about a year. Survived by a wife nine children and six grandchildren. Funeral conducted by Rev Pope with several relatives present. Wife expresses thanks through Tur News. advertising clippings follow.

First House Built in Alamogordo by W. E. Palmer

W. E. Palmer, El Paso & Northeastern railway agent, celebrated his fortieth birthday and built Alamogordo’s first residence after arriving May 21, 1898. Born March 20, 1856 in Essex New York, Palmer’s career spanned Santa Fe and multiple postings across the Southwest earning him high esteem for his obliging conduct and long service.

A new junior Spanish class is formed under Principal Prof Swanwick at the Alamogordo night school. The class meets Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 30 p.m. and uses the same room as existing commercial and stenographic classes.
