Pick-Up Station Nears Completion on Pennsylvania Avenue
The Pick-Up Station on Pennsylvania Avenue nears completion to provide free rides for Holloman airmen waiting for transport to the base. The USO Operating Committee authorized it. Fred Roessler, John Rolland, and Bill Gaines led the project with praise for Ben Rutz and contractor Dick Gesting.

Local Builders Win Contract for State Police Buildings
City commissioners reviewed plans for the State Police office barracks and residence. Tompkins & McBride of Alamogordo secured the construction contract from the State Purchasing Agent. The state will lease Alameda Park for 99 years, with the leased area between 13th and 14th Streets extending into the park 150 feet and 560 feet of frontage.

PMA Field Man Guides Lincoln Otero District Meeting
C. E. Habiger of the Production Marketing Administration led the Lincoln and Otero county joint PMA district meeting in Albuquerque. About 24 community committee members attended to learn PMA programs including loans storage facilities and conservation. Emphasis was on submitting 1953 practices for the handbook. Mother Identifies Son Found Dead by Photos Sent to Sheriff
The body of Hurstine Junkins was found near a city dump and identified from Army records by the FBI a few days before his burial on January 5. His mother Mrs Helen Stevens of Norwich Conn forwarded photos from his army service and sent a $50 reimbursement and a $10 thank you money order to Chief Huckabee, which were refused.

White Sands Monument Receives Water Line Pipe
Two carloads of three inch transite pipe for a water line from Holloman AFB to White Sands National Monument have arrived. Superintendent Johnwill Faris says the pipe resists soil action. Fire Destroys Britton Home in High Rolls NM
A March 11 fire destroyed the Roy Britton residence in High Rolls as strong winds and low water pressure prevented saving the house. Mrs Rosalie Britton Stanborough and Mrs Louise Hudman alerted authorities, and Cloudcroft Fire Department battled the blaze. The Britton family includes Roy Lee a high school senior and siblings James Earl and Dorothy.

Alamo Merchant Injured In Highway Collision Near Ruidoso
Fritz Heilbronn and Mesilla Park resident Mrs. Francell Polito were hospitalized after Heilbronn's 1951 Buick hit a culvert abutment on Highway 70 two miles from the Ruidoso junction. Heilbronn suffered a lacerated eye and possible chest injuries. Polito had a chipped neck vertebra and severe cuts. Both were taken to Ruidoso hospital. Polito later stayed at Gerald Champion Memorial hospital. Local officers arranged for Heilbronn's transfer to GCM hospital.
