The Alamogordo High School band with 24 entries will compete at State College on March 21 and 22. Solo and ensemble contests start Friday at 9 00 a m. band and orchestra events Saturday. Ensembles include Woodwind Trio Quartet Quintet Clarinet and Brass groups with students named, plus solos by 15 musicians. Five solos perform at the March 14 concert and Band Parents Association meeting is March 9 at 7 30 in the H B Auditorium.

Lovington Road Meet Urges 83 Improvements
Andrew Hendrix of the Alamo Gordo Chamber of Commerce and Ray Daniels joined representatives from six New Mexico towns and several in Texas at Lovington on March 6 to back Highway 83 upgrades. Four resolutions urged the New Mexico highway department to oil coat 83 from No. 70 to High Rolls, widen curves, install guard rails on the Cloudcroft side, improve Burnt Canyon, and add 23 miles of gravel toward Cloudcroft. The next association meeting is set for Alamogordo on April 25, 1941.

Death Comes To Geo. A. Bufkin 84
George A Bufkin aged 84 died after five years of paralysis at his Alamogordo home on Wednesday March 12. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Geren Leadinghaus Mortuary with burial beside his wife Ida Bufkin who died last October. He was born April 17 1858 in Meridian Mississippi and moved to Temple Texas sixty years ago. He married Ida Pace December 28 1884 and came to Alamogordo in October 1908 with seven children born to the union four survive Jess Bufkin Ruth Benedict Lulu Pepper and Luther Bufkin. A sister Ida Nixon of Waco survives. He was a genial husband and father with a wide circle of friends.

Rare Pemphigus Fatal To Andres Valle At Age 7
Andres Valle seven son of Jose and Felicitas Valle died Friday March seven at his parents home on St street and New York avenue from pemphigus a rare fatal infection complicated by pneumonia. He had broken his arm February three when he fell leaving church and attempted to climb another boy's back. A blood transfusion failed to halt the illness. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St Mary's Church with burial in the Catholic cemetery.
