Last week the fifth grade under Miss Worthington led in attendance and non tardiness, earning the usual hot day. Superintendent Shiffler’s report through February 26 details weekly enrollment and attendance by grade, with percentages and tardiness figures for the Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Fourth, Second, First, and auxiliary grades.
Father Migeon from Palarosa brings news that Mrs Carmen Varela, widow of E. Prado, has become a great grandmother. The article notes the rarity of five generations in one family and mentions her first husband died in 1865 during a battle with Mescalero Indians near San Antonio Mountains.

Blas Duran was found guilty of larceny and given a two year sentence suspended during good behavior. The Territory vs John Beard resulted in not guilty. The murder case against E P Crow was continued due to the principal witness illness. Catarina Ramirez murder charge was dismissed. Padilla and Bernal cases were also dismissed.

The Pecos Valley Land and Development Company from Lake Arthur, led by transportation manager Will Lawrence, brought 41 homeseekers from Iowa and Nebraska to the depot this morning. They were photographed at Turner Studio and then nine autos carried them to 89 overland to Lake Arthur. An additional 18 settlers from Indiana and Illinois are due tonight to travel directly to Lake Arthur.

Mr and Mrs Win Hyde visit from Amarillo and plan a farm four and a half miles south west of town. Lipton Prude Mercantile consolidates to run Mescalero store, boosting regional business. Probate office upgrades include new furniture and a separating railing. Joe Jolly handles work. A S Randolph allegedly hypnotized Miss Billings in Tucumcari, leading to arrest and jail time as authorities cite a 30 day sleep claim amid prior mob tension.
