Legion Sets Goal For Memorial Home In Alamogordo
Alamogordo American Legion Post 34 plans a Memorial Home costing about 30000 to be built on lots purchased across from the Lawrence Addition northwest of Alamogordo. The post formed in 1948 to fund the project and has 3000 in treasury. The building will host Legion meetings social events and activities for the auxiliary Boy Scout troop and Alamogordo Junior Rifle Club. The design remains to be chosen and will be decided by the fund drive trustees.

Grady Dungan with local townsmen and Holloman Air Force Base personnel organized a one event drive against infantile paralysis at the ball park last Sunday. After expenses were covered he turned over 100 dollars to the March of Dimes chair Mrs. Francis Burch. County totals rose to 1926 dollars and 67 cents for the year.

Will J. Davis long time Alamogordo resident died March 4 at his Atascadero California home after years of illness. He was 72, native of Pennsylvania. Survived by widow and one son Clyde. Davis served as local railroad depot dispatcher for 31 years before moving to California in 1937.

Alamogordo Water Pipeline Nearing Finish With Valves Pending
The Alamogordo water project by B M Spafford Co is complete except for air-check valve installations on sections to La Luz Canyon. An additional 8500 feet of line from the northeast town entrance to the reservoir southeast of town is expected to be laid soon. Spafford is cleaning springs and laying feeder lines to complete the 13 mile La Luz Canyon water supply, a sped up effort added to the original plan.

Otero County schools and county road funds will split the Forest Service annual check of 5020.69 received by the county assessor. The U S Forest Service sent New Mexico’s share of 1948 forest revenues totaling 112436 43 to the state treasurer, the largest ever recorded, with Lincoln National Forest receipts comprising about a fifth. An additional ten percent of funds is earmarked to back to forest areas for roads and trails, funding road projects and a planned highway extension from Dry Canyon to Mountain Park and beyond.

Death of Joe Deason 36 former resident reported from a San Francisco hospital with funeral services there. He left town two months earlier for medical treatment in California. Alamogordo High School inaugurates an Industrial Arts department led by Richard W. Bright. Four classes of 76 boys study wood work and mechanics with power and hand tools as the program expands from ninth to twelfth grade.
