Pioneer citizen Robert H. Pierce dies after long illness
Robert H. Pierce a veteran Alamogordo merchant and early Southwest pioneer died at his home on Tenth Street Alamogordo Friday night March 2 after a weeks long illness following pneumonia. Services were held Tuesday at 3 pm conducted by Rev. A. N. Porter with Legion and G A R presence and music by local singers. Pierce born 1846 in Virginia served in Kansas and Illinois units in the Civil War and later built a large trade business in Seven Rivers and Alamogordo helping stockmen and the community. He left a wife and nine children and was praised for business acumen and aid to friends.

Alamogordo sheriff's office reports a murder near Carrizozo. Victim Roselle, a Zeigler Bros. deliveryman, was found badly injured at a ranch house south of Carrizozo after an assault with a club and gunfire. His condition is critical. Authorities have no suspects or solid leads yet.
