Mother and child fatally burned in kerosene blaze at Bass apartments
The five year old son of Pvt and Mrs John S Hurst died from burns while the mother is in critical condition after kerosene ignited wood fuel at Bass apartments. Eyewitnesses say the mother poured kerosene onto the stove causing a flare up that engulfed their room. Ben Ward, from Vinson's Cleaning and Laundry, aided in the rescue and was burned on the hands. the other child sustained minor burns. Pvt Hurst is with Battery D of the First Aviation Mess Bn White Sands Proving Grounds and had just left the apartment minutes before the fire.
