The New Mexico State Game and Fish Commission decided to remove about 1,000 deer from the overstocked west side of the Sacramento mountains southeast of Alamogordo, covering roughly 38,400 acres. An open season on does will follow after the big game season, based on bucks killed. Permits and a $2 fee limit entries. A longer big game season was approved with dates set from late October or mid November for deer turkeys and squirrels.

Irvin Nichols said the fight was not about range and water and offered no other explanation.

Santa Fe March 11. Congress passes a 132 million emergency road bill and the president signs it. New Mexico’s 21st fiscal year program will top 4.5 million on federal aid jobs with 1.6 million regular aid, 1.9 million emergency funds and about 1 million in highway debentures. If received, emergency aid could employ over 2,000 workers and build about 350 miles of road, including 75 miles of topping and 275 miles new. The state has 3,300 miles in the system, with roughly 1,900 miles already built.
Santa Fe. Lehr, cd., Lehr of Santa Fe, arrested 10:30 Tuesday night on the road south of Orogrande in a Plymouth loaded with liquor from Old Mexico. Officers Albert Bean and J H Shaffer seized 22 quarts Scotch 60 pinto Juarez 18 gallons Mexican alcohol 24 pints Mexican beer 22 quarts and 84 pints dutible bottles. Lehr bound over to federal district court in $2,000 bond after preliminary hearing before U S Commissioner Tom Charles Wednesday.
