Mrs Alma Marie Beerman wife of Dr P G Beerman born Manistee Michigan February 2 1872 died Alamogordo New Mexico February 27 1906. Her infant son Karl six weeks old also died and was buried here then shipped with her to Manistee Michigan for final burial. The bereaved husband two young sons Lowell Richard seven Mellward George four and mother Mrs George Ciechanowsky accompanied her. The last wish was to have the baby buried with her in Michigan and the family sailed home with the remains. Heartfelt sympathy is offered to Dr Beerman in his hour of affliction.
Washington February 1 The Senate confirmed James W. Raynolds for Secretary of the Territory of New Mexico after a unanimous favorable report from the Territories Committee. Myron H. McCord of Arizona was named Collector of Customs at Tucson and Albert Morowetz of Arizona was named consul at Bahia Brazil.
Leo Gale representing H. Lesin sky of El Paso visited last week to invite local merchants to engage in a business opportunity.
Plans are nearly ready to install a pumping plant at the artesian test well. A piping system will deliver water to irrigate a large garden and a peach and apricot orchard. Forty acres will be prepared as an experimental farm using the water from the well drilled by the E P S W. The 1000 foot deep bore sits in red heavy clay with abundant water.
The Los Angeles Express reports the Belen cut-off will finish by January 1, 1906. Actual use slated six months after, with track surfacing and testing needed. The line will cut 90 miles and drop Chicago to Los Angeles time from 66 to about 57 hours.
Resolution dated February 26 1906 thanks Will Courtney George Warnock and G E Warren for organizing the February 19 anniversary entertainment. It also thanks others who contributed to the program and provides for record posting and publication to local papers and the Grand Domain of New Mexico.
Washington reports a relief for Leesburg flood victims in the lower Rio Grande valley. Secretary Hitchcock will allow $200,000 from the reclamation fund to be used without a bond, provided it is returned within ten years. The money enables irrigation until the Eagle project proceeds. Roswell contractor T F Cazier wins the Honda reservoir earthwork bid for $10,115.
Chicago carpenters win a three year raise worth over 1 million dollars annually through a contract with the Carpenters and Builders Association. The raise starts 50 to 55 cents per hour for year one and rises to 56 4 cents per hour in years two and three, benefiting about 10 000 union members.
The New Mexico Baptist College prepares to open for the next session on September 1, 1906. Secretary R M Jackson reports readiness and that the college is now led by territorial Baptists ensuring best management and preparations.
Washington February 20. The Stephens Texas bill to open part of the Mescalero Apache Reservation is being pushed by supporters led by Representative Stephens. Covetous eyes fix on mineral deposits and timber lands while plans may relocate Geronimo and San Carlos Apaches from Fort Sill to bolster numbers at the Reservation. The measure is seen as a potential solution to the vexed issue benefiting Mescaleros and Gentierniws? flowers.
The Citizens National Bank of Alamogordo New Mexico planned with Judge Alf Hunter as president and Bert Seamans as cashier aims for 25000 capital. Located in the Jake Snover building next to R H Pierce Company with Snover as stockholder. Cattlemen from Weed and Penasco groups expected to invest. Jas Hunter and Seamans to canvass once papers arrive.
Circular from El Paso & Southwestern System announces trains will service the new Union Passenger Station in El Paso starting March 1 1906. Through tickets no longer require a transfer coupon between lines or the fifty cent transfer charge when routing through El Paso. Through rates should be reduced accordingly.
Tuesday night Sadie Williams and Lucile McRae hosted a surprise party for Claude Hudnall. Guests included Mae Rigney Cora Chipman Dora Chipman Fay Newell Pauline McRae Bonnie Boyce I Williams L Jacobs F Guthrie E Barton and R Guthrie. The party lasted late with the birthday celebration and Claude expressing he wouldn’t object to more surprises.
Norman Pierce, three, swallowed a nickel Friday. An X Ray located the coin and dislodging it was performed in El Paso with Dr. A. D. Pankey assisting. Pankey moves to Tucumcari Thursday and joins S M Wharton in purchasing an interest in the Tucumcari News. May Seeger out sick from Peoples Bros. store this week with grippe.
