Alamogordo launches Red Cross Month with a county quota of 8400 dollars for the annual roll call. Rev. Lacy Smms to direct efforts with Mose Cauthen leading business houses and George Shipley handling gifts from outside firms. Local women oversee residence sections and social groups while theatres, schools, and Boy Scout troops join in. Last year all towns met quotas and 1944 funds supported every service member.

Professor T H Claypool 79 died in Houston on February 19 after a career as Baylor University agriculture and mathematics professor from 1904 to 1935. He led New Mexico Baptist College at Alamogordo 1900 to 1903 and is remembered by Alamogordo's older citizens. Survivors include widow three daughters Mrs Marrs Mrs Jones and Mrs Roberts and a son R M Claypool, all of Texas.

Funeral services for Charles Compton Hastings of the eastern city were held at Geren Leadinghaus Chapel. He died Sunday February 25 at his home. Interment is Mount Vista Cemetery. Hastings born December 15 1873 in Meadville Pa moved to Colorado 1886 later lived in Alamo?overdo. He married May Rudge in 1899 and leaves children, plus sons in the armed services and several relatives.

Passing Of Joseph B Wingfield Pioneer of the Southwest
Funeral services for Joseph Bullen Wingfield 79 were held at Geren and Leadinghaus Chapel with Rev. Lacy Simms officiating. Pallbearers included Martin Irvin Menger R D Champion Ed Sanders and others. Interment at Mount Vista Cemetery. Wingfield born January 1 1866 in Knobwoster Missouri came to New Mexico in 1888 and married Lacey Voris in Roswell in 1895. He died in Odessa Texas after a brief illness while living with his son Jack Wingfield. Five of his six children attended the service Forest Wingfield in Monterrey Mexico Josephine Potter Jack Wingfield Dorothy Shaffer Eleanor Tibbetts. This marked the first time in thirty years all the Wingfield children were together.

A charitable musical at the Alamogordo Club House next Wednesday March 7 features lyric soprano Evelyn Kowiak and pianist Harry J. Ditzler with accompanists Erma Clark and Glad Storrs. Kowiak, a Philadelphia trained artist with a University of Pennsylvania degree, will sing classics and operatic pieces. Ditzler will accompany and perform Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
