On Saturday February 18 a man posing as a shoe salesman bought 2.00 worth of groceries at the Tennessee Grocery with a 20.00 check, keeping the $18 in cash. He rented an apartment at the Terrace and groceries were delivered there. The Lordsburg check was protested. The man identified as Grant R. Baker was later heard from in Dalhart, cashing a phony Alamo State Bank check. A wire urged Dalhart authorities to detain him, but it is unclear if he was captured.

Mr and Mrs W A Randle sell Hotel Weigele to Mr and Mrs John Dowdle. Dowdles take possession March 15 and will run the Alamogordo hotel themselves. Randle family plans to move to Tucumcari to operate the new Hotel Randle after remodeling. The Randle hotel will be rebuilt from the Goldenberg building, adding 60 rooms with baths and carpeted interiors at an estimated remodeling cost of 50000 and furnishings of 15000.
