Otero county is classified as second class under a new state salaries bill based on assessed valuation. The act sets district attorney pay at 4500, with sheriff, treasurer, county clerk and others at specified amounts, plus jail deputies and guards pay limits and daily prisoner feeding costs.

A Boston inspired mail order cowboy from Albany was arrested at Union Station for wearing a pistol openly. He aimed to act as a bad man and witness daring scenes before traveling to El Paso to begin his wild west campaign. He wore a pistol and regalia, later allowed to resume summer clothes after explanation. The El Paso Times notes an earlier age of showy frontier fantasy.
The 1912 opinion by Attorney General Frank W. Clancy says county commissioners may publish delinquent tax lists at a lower rate than the statutory maximum and that paying higher prices when cheaper options exist constitutes official misconduct. The article accuses local officials in Alamogordo and surrounding counties of long-standing overpayment and calls for accountability.

Dr W E Garrison and his chauffeur drove from Las Cruces to Cloudcroft in nine and a half hours Tuesday. The 125 mile trip via Alamogordo Tularosa and Mescalero agency used a two passenger Ford with sand filled roads. He reports the road in good condition now but not reliable in heavy rain.
Cloudcroft announces a monster Fourth of July event promising cool weather as a key draw. The town seeks crowds with outdoor activities and festive showcases to attract visitors seeking pleasant independence day recreation.
W M Twiggs grand master of 1 O O F met with the local lodge in a special session on Wednesday night. A good deal of important business was transacted. Twiggs departed Thursday morning for a tour through the upper end of the state.
Miss Rath Woodbury in charge of the music department at the New Mexico Institute for the Blind left Wednesday morning for Albuquerque guiding a party of pupils. She will vacation at the Woodbury summer home in New Hampshire. Ed Chase resigned from the Southwestern case and now works for G. Scipio. he has years of plumbing experience. James E. Anderson returned to Tularosa after a brief business visit in Alamogordo. The legislature reelected Judge A B Fall to another United States Senate term.
A severe sand storm swept Alamogordo Sunday afternoon between five and six o'clock, lasting about thirty minutes. Residents reported the storm as the worst in years and noted the potential cleaning burden if it had extended longer.
