Couple Killed in Air Crash Near Artesia
Bodies of Richard Albert Paris and Mabel Virginia Paris both 24 of Stillwater Oklahoma were found in a light plane wreck 65 miles west of Artesia. The couple had departed from Artesia Sunday evening bound for Hope to meet Mershon family Sacramento Mountain ranchers. the crash occurred about 40 miles west of Hope.

Increased Tobacco Tax Effective June 13
A one cent hike in the state tobacco tax will add an estimated 300000 to 400000 annually to the Public Welfare Department coffers for aid to the needy aged. The current two cent tax on cigarettes and tobacco products brings in about 1,000,000 yearly. Joe Callaway of the Luxury Tax Division said the 1947 increase affects only cigarettes and will yield less than a 50 percent rise in total revenue. Officials warned 4600 retail vendors and wholesalers to apply the extra cent and tag on-hand stock sold after the date.

Funeral Rites for Mrs Delia Grant Held in El Paso
Funeral services for the late Mrs Delia Grant were conducted Monday at the Easter Maxon Chapel in El Paso. Interment followed at Restlawn Cemetery.
