The Lions Club boosted funds by 1000 dollars from a broom sale last weekend to aid visual handicapped children and youth activities. Half supports glasses for families unable to purchase aids, the rest funds annual Hallowe en parties for about 2000 children. Campaign directors were Shoesmith and Hoffman with door to door sales aided by the Lionesses and volunteers from Alamogordo.

Two Alamo GI Forum Members Appointed To State Offices
Eugene Hill and Mary Molinar were named to state posts by the American GI Forum at its first Albuquerque convention. Hill became chair of the state board for the southern region and Molinar was appointed assistant state secretary. Six injured in Alamogordo highway crash involving six
At 8 15 Sunday night on highway 70, six people were in an accident 20 miles west of Alamogordo. G E Yetley suffered a head injury and was taken to the local hospital. Betty Bitticks of Alamogordo drove a 1951 Mercury into a 1930 Model A Ford driven by James Yates of Mesa Arizona. Emory Yates rode with him and others in the Bitticks car included her husband J F Bitticks and Charles Eggers. The Ford overturned once. the Bitticks car skidded 318 feet upright. Charges against the driver will be preferred.

Deadline set for drivers under sixteen to obtain license
At noon on Friday June 12 the deadline for 14 to 16 year olds to obtain operators licenses under the new New Mexico law takes effect. The change raises the eligible age from 14 to 16 and applies to licenses issued to that age group. Those already holding yearlong licenses may swap for three year licenses with extra fee.

A meeting to set up Scout summer work and present a Scoutmaster key to Chris Gallegos Sr will be held Friday at 8 o clock in the junior high school. A. P. Genta of Yucca Council invites all Scoutmasters district committee members neighborhood commissioners and other local people interested in Boy Scout work in the area. Mrs Ortega Dies At Local Hospital
Mrs Per fecta Ortega, 79, died Thursday night at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital after coming from her Tularosa residence. Born April 18 1874 she had lived in Tularosa seven years and Alamogordo earlier. Mass was said at St Francis Church Tularosa with burial in Tularosa cemetery. Surviving are daughters Mrs Eliseo Pena of Tularosa and Mrs Maria Gonzales of Los Angeles and brothers Pedro and Danaso Ortega of Alamogordo.

Williams Trial Delayed to July in Alamogordo Case
James C. Williams a 36 year old Negro held on suspicion of killing his common law wife May Della Sanford was postponed to July 21 in District court. Williams jailed since March 10 escaped with another prisoner on March 20 and was recaptured at Plains Texas March 22 and returned to Alamogordo. Sanford’s body was found near Tularosa by a tourist in August 1952.
