Blind Boys Hold Athletic Meet at New Mexico Institute

The New Mexico Institute for the Blind held an on campus athletic meet last Saturday in favorable weather. Class A and B events included standing broad jump yard dash and chinning with top marks by Juan Mestas Gertrudis Villarreal and Yiacere Gashtea. Closing exercises are set for Wednesday evening the 7th with public attendance invited.

Memorial Day Service Honors Civil War Veterans in Alamogordo

Grace M. E. church hosted a memorial service honoring both blue and gray veterans. Rev Ed Le Breton delivered a lengthy sermon praising the soldiers and their families, stressing unity and national progress. Governor William J. Mills proclaimed June 22 1911 as The Call of New Mexico day to promote territorial development.
