Geo C Hopking, GM of the New Mexican Lead company mines in the San Andreas mountains, is in El Paso arranging teams to haul ore to the railroad. He cites ore samples from forty to seventy two percent lead and a vein sixteen feet wide. June output reached 1000 tons with expectations to double in July as mining expands and transport costs fall.

Born 1857 in Killingly Connecticut, Fillmore began in insurance and railroading before entering lumber in 1880.

The American Placer Company advances a five mile pipe line to exploit the Ancho Gulch grounds in the Jicarilla mountains. A large hydraulic machine is en route and work crews prepare to operate on arrival. The machine and apparatus will haul about five car loads of freight with S. L. Bean, the superintendent, and engineer Johnson on site.
