Body of ex sailor Pinnell found near Las Cruces
The body of Forest Dean Pinnell twenty year old former California sailor missing since January was found Tuesday morning six miles west of Las Cruces in a ravine. Investigators tie his death to forged travelers checks bearing his name with some accounts suggesting foul play. Captain Hathway said forged checks were cashed in Globe Arizona Bayard New Mexico Silver City and Deming and Mesilla with Pinnell’s signature. He noted a possible murder connected to the forged checks.

A. G. Anderson and his son Love Don, both of Las Cruces, died in a car crash six miles north of Alamo Gordo on July 5 after the car left the road and struck a bridge edge at Highway 54 La Luz turn-off. The father died later in Champion Memorial hospital from chest injuries.

Two El Pasoans Injured in Ruidoso Road Crash
Tommy York and Ralph Dupree, both El Paso residents, were injured Saturday when their car veered off the Ruidoso road seven miles north of Tularosa and struck a culvert. Patrolman Robert Badache investigated. Dupree was sleeping, York also asleep, and both were hospitalized locally then at Hotel Dieu in El Paso. The car was a 1941 Mercury Tudor owned by Dupree.
Grand Jury Ends Four Day Session At Cost of 423
Otero County Grand Jury met from June 27 to 30 and adjourned with modest findings. Total cost to the county was 423.60 dollars, covering juror pay, bailiff, clerk expenses, and mileage. Reports urged repairs and redecorating across county offices including jail, sheriff, clerk, assessor, courthouse annex, health and school offices, and restrooms.

About 8 285 people in 1 595 cars witnessed the Fourth of July fireworks display at White Sands National Monument Tuesday night. Superintendent Johnwill Faris said Delaware Vermont Rhode Island and West Virginia were the only states not represented while Mexico Alaska and the District of Columbia appeared among foreign licenses checked.
