Mescalero Church Dedicated After Twenty Years of Work

The Mescalero Apache Reservation marks a milestone as Father Albert Braun’s stone church is dedicated on July 4. More than 500 attendees, Apache dignitaries, 21 priests, and Protestant friends witness the blessing by Bishop A. J. Schuler. Braun could not attend due to his sister’s death in Los Angeles. Expatriated Mexican priests helped quarry stone and burn lime for the landmark.

Miss Wilma Beauchamp of Alamogordo will marry Lieut Robt Gibbons of Marysville Kansas on July 15. Gibbons, a University of Nebraska graduate, comes from Lincoln Nebraska and previously served at Fort Crook. They will reside in Marysville Kansas.

Harvey interests buy Calentine half in Silver Fox Farm

C M Harvey, president of El Paso National Bank, said the Harveys purchased the Calentine half of the Silver Fox farm east of Cloudcroft. The partnership with E C and Davie Calentine and Paul Harvey and Charles M Harvey Jr. is dissolved and Harvey takes full ownership and plans extensive improvements. The farm houses over 250 breeding foxes and developing a platinum line. The Harveys own land in Lincoln Socorro Dona Ana counties and have long ties to Alamogordo Cloudcroft.

Death of Mrs Nina Skinner in Prescott Ariz

Mrs Nina E Skinner 34 died June 23 in a Prescott hospital after an operation that was initially deemed successful then followed by paralysis. She was daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Green of Orogrande and survived by husband two sons parents and several siblings. Burial held June 24 in Prescott.

Eleven Local Youths Take Flying Lessons

Eleven local young men respond to an announcement that flying instruction would be offered at the local airport by El Paso Flying Service staff. Jerome A. Martin will visit twice weekly with his cabin monoplane, lessons from seven in the morning until dark, eight hours of dual instruction required before solo flight. Spectators and students may attend on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Three Die in Mayhill Auto Crash In New Mexico

A Chicago family of four dies in a 3:30 p.m. crash on Highway 83 three miles east of Mayhill New Mexico. Victims are Joseph Marx 56 Eva Marx 50 and Eva Joergen. John Schmidt injured and treated at Camp F-32-N infirmary Mayhill. Schmidt says scuffling over the steering wheel caused the crash. Bodies moved to Alamogordo for shipment to Chicago.

Police Court Fines Dispensing Liquor and Violations

Mrs. Minnie Waltz paid a $50 fine and court costs on July 3 for illegally disposing of intoxicating liquor. In the past week reckless driving cases included John Enjody Mescalero who pleaded guilty and was fined $25, Don Hodges Roswell $17.50, Elvis Muse tourist $15 plus costs, L. D. Hazen tourist $15 plus costs. Several inebriates pleaded guilty in Justice Court over the weekend and were released after paying varying fines.
