A newlywed couple quarrels over a trivial domestic request as the husband leaves for town. She fears harsh words and lingering anger while he mocks her, but the pair expect reconciliation that night and a long life of harmony.
Mrs. Julia Ke Byus, wife of Geo A Byus, died about 2 AM Wednesday January 5 after nearly two years of illness. Born February 13 1875 in Canton Mississippi she joined the Old School Presbyterian church young and died in the faith. Her husband Geo A Byus worked in the Tribune office and both were known in Alamogordo. They had two children one died in infancy and a six year old son survived. The couple, printers by trade, moved from Belton to Arlington and later to New Mexico before settling six months ago in Temple to be near her mother.
Joseph Joquel exits the Optic composing room to take over the Weekly Review after purchasing it from J. F. Manning who departs to Denver for likely newspaper work. Joquel previously served as foreman of the Daily Optic composing room and will be succeeded by Eugene A. Day from the Los Angeles Herald.
The Denver Field and Farm comments on a surge in demand for grazing land across the western states. It notes rising beef prices, army and export demand, and a shift from large cattle outfits to smaller irrigated ranches. Cattlemen foresee shortages being met by ranchers with watered hay meadows rather than big operations.
Fourteen stations will be built along the El Paso and Northeastern extension from Carrizoto to Santa Rosa. Construction has begun with many carpenters assembled at Alamogordo. Two stations will be built on the Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain road at Toboggan and Highroll.
Capitan public schools resume after three weeks of Christmas break. The new central building, erected in the town center, cost about 15000 dollars and will house students for the first time.

The official statement details 1901 track construction across extensions from Anardarko to Lawton in Oklahoma and from Chicago Rock Island to El Paso in New Mexico.
