John Claron Hawkins of La Luz was found dead December 26 in his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A coroner’s inquest was held. a note cited low spirits. Survived by wife Margaret, son John C. Hawkins Jr, two daughters, and several siblings. Graveside rites conducted at La Luz Cemetery with Rev. Al Babbitt officiating.

Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce named the Marrone home at 321 Linda Vista Drive grand champions for the most beautifully decorated outdoor display in the holiday lighting contest. One Dead and 17 Hurt in Holloman Base Accident
A truck rollover at Holloman Air Force Base killed PFC Cleon R. Stephens of Crystal River Florida and injured 17 other soldiers from the 12th Ordinance Battalion. PFC Bobby N. Turner remained seriously injured after transfer to William Beaumont Hospital El Paso. Funeral services were held for Stephens in Crystal River Florida.

Mary Blevins 91 Dies. Longtime Mayhill Postmistress
Mrs Mary Blevins died Thursday in Anthony New Mexico at age 91 after long illness. She served as Mayhills first postmistress for 18 years before moving to Anthony in 1909. Survivors include her husband George M Blevins sons Wiley N Coe True Coe Elmer Coe and two daughters including Opal Cotner. 13 grandchildren 22 great grandchildren a brother and a sister. Services were in Anthony Methodist Church with Rev Cyril Stone officiating burial in Anthony Cemetery.

Former Alamogordo city manager B. E. Rutz will move his family to Albuquerque about February 1 to assume duties as assistant materials engineer in the state highway department. He led Alamogordo for five years after 14 years in the testing lab at State College before the move. The lab has relocated to the University of Albuquerque, where it has stood for four years. The Rutz family includes daughter Margaret at the university, son Charles in local high school, and a second daughter Mrs. Frank Harrington in Charleston, West Virginia.

Airplane Strikes Worker on White Sands Dunes
A light Army plane clipped a man walking on the White Sands dunes Tuesday night. Clarence A. Michaelman of Springfield Illinois suffered a fractured right elbow and fractures of the right leg and hip. He was treated at Holloman Air Force Base Hospital and later moved to William Beaumont Army Hospital.
