Fire Destroys New Cloudcroft Gym

Death of Mrs J H Alexander in College Addition
Mrs Sarco Furman Alexander wife of J H Alexander died at home in College Addition on Monday December 23 after years of illness. Funeral service was set for December 25 at the Baptist Church with Rev Earl R Keating. She was born September 12 1882 in Colorado Texas and moved to the Sacramento Mountains as a child. She married in Alamogordo in 1908 and leaves six sons and two daughters with three children predeceased. Survivors include Harold in Santa Barbara Luther in Pomona David Harris and Merle in Alamogordo.

Hollywood couple visits Tularosa family in New Mexico
Haydens Mr and Mrs Russell Hayden and their baby Sandra of Hollywood visit Mrs Hayden's parents Mr and Mrs Werner Clayton in Tularosa. Mrs Hayden formerly Jane Clayton is under contract with Warner Bros and has sung in several roles. Hayden, a veteran actor, appeared in Hopalong Cassidy and other westerns and the couple has stayed in Alamogordo homes.
Rare Indian relic unearthed near here
A thunderbird carved from blue lime rock, about 17 by 12 inches, found by Bunyan and Lon Cleghorn near the Indian village at the mouth of Dog Canyon in the Guadalupe mountains. The artifact, likely a prehistor ic fetish or ceremonial rock, on display at the J. E. Gregg pool hall. Local villages in the area date 800 to 1600 years ago, with Dog Canyon village of similar age.

Death comes to Mrs Anita Tafoya Chavez in Alamogordo
Anita Tafoya Chavez died at home after a four day illness from pneumonia. Her newborn granddaughter died an hour after birth to Jose Chavez and wife. Born 1875 in Lincoln New Mexico she recalled Billy the Kid episodes near Lincoln. Survived by son Jose Chavez daughter Trinidad Avila and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at St Francis Church.
