Body of run runner Dave Orr buried in Kansas

The slain rum runner Dave Orr aged 25 was taken to his Kansas home for burial after being killed when resisting an officer during a liquor raid. His father, who arrived from Chase Kansas, spoke of his grief and accused those who financed Orr’s illicit activity while lamenting his son’s death. Orr had claimed he had no relatives but a local report notes a teacher who did not know of his illegal work. He served in France with the A E F.

Western roads seek labor board to vacate recent wage order

A committee of western railroad managers will petition the U S railroad labor board to vacate the November 29 order granting engineers and firemen on the Southern Pacific system a roughly six percent wage increase. They allege the decision was coerced by a threat to interrupt transportation and warn of potential Western rate hikes. The filing targets conditions tied to the wage rise and altered operating rules the railroads deem restrictive.

Health statistics show record low death rate near year end

Sudden Death for Mrs W L Garrison

Mrs. W. L. Garrison died at her home eight miles south of Alamogordo at 12 10 last Friday morning. She was stricken about 6 00 the night before while at the corral. Funeral services were held at the Geren Leadinghous chapel and interment followed in the local cemetery. She was 71, born in Gallatin Missouri in 1853. Her husband and one son survive, the latter living in Tucson. They had lived in Otero county 16 years and were active in improving a small farm.

Thomson Family Heads to Louisville for Extended Visit

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. F. Thomson and their son Major departed Monday for Louisville Kentucky to visit relatives and friends. They traveled in a newly purchased Buick touring car. The Thomson family are orchardists living in the Mt Park area.

Rotarians Host Merry Luncheon With Christmas Tree

The Rotarians held a nearly full attendance luncheon with Supt. Jas Chapman absent in El Paso. A new member Frank Rolland joined as a Christmas tree provided gifts for charity. Santa distributed presents and the group voted $15 from the fine box plus a collection to charity.

Interior orders reveal large land withdrawals across the West

The Geological Survey reports 133,403 acres withdrawn in Arizona and New Mexico for water power. About 30,00 acres in these states and Utah become non irrigable homesteads of 220 acres or less. Colorado, Montana, Nebraska and North Dakota see over 100,000 acres classified under stock raising homestead entry of 620 acres or less. 23,000 acres in Colorado near Garfield County are set aside for naval Oil Reserve No 1 and experimental purposes.
