Business Houses To Close Monday In Alamo Gordo

Christmas falls on Sunday this year and general agreement leads to all Alamo Gordo business houses staying closed on Monday for the entire day. Patrons are advised to buy provisions and necessities to last until Tuesday December 27.

Las Cruces banker Oscar Snow dies in Rochester

Oscar C. Snow prominent Las Cruces banker president of the First National Bank of Las Cruces and longtime farmer died December 1 in Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota after a surgical operation. Born in the Mesilla Valley he helped develop the region and was a 1894 state college graduate survived by wife a daughter two grandchildren and brother W M Snow of Mountain Park.

Christmas Carols to Be Sung at Tularosa Muse U Theatre

Mrs. Herbert Haywood directs a Christmas carol program at Muse U Theatre Tularosa Sunday night December 26 starting 8 o clock. Local religious groups participate with Rev Fred Clark reading scriptures and a series of carols solos duets and readings led by a trained chorus. The program ends with a benediction inviting all sacred music lovers to attend and share in the Christmas melodies.

Petition to Outlaw War Presented to President

Miss Jane Addams of Chicago now reports that President Coolidge assured a strong effort to secure a treaty outlawing war. She headed a delegation from the Woman's International League for Peace and Freedom which delivered a petition with 30,000 signatures urging the President to press arbitration treaties beginning with France and Great Britain as substitutes for war.

Alamogordo Sewer Project Nears Completion

Alamogordo officials report the Moore Construction Company has finished the last excavation on the sewer project. The $75,000 effort, spanning three months, connects the main district the NM School for the Blind and other small outside connections. The town board has long planned the work over the past year.

Gallup New Mexico December 16 1930 The Gallup Electric Light and Power Co plant was sold to the Texas Louisiana Power Co a company already owning plants in Alamogordo and Silver City for 380000 The deal was contingent on a favorable franchise approved by the town trustees at their meeting last night

Christmas Program at New Mexico School for the Blind

County figures show about 25 percent of Otero County car owners have 1928 plates. With ~1600 cars, 400 plates issued so far. Office hours run through December 31, excluding weekends. deadline December 1 for in-county issuance before mail to Santa Fe and potential delay penalty. Lexington the United States navy's new giant

Quincy Massachusetts December fourteenth saw the launch of the Lexington described as the world’s most powerful naval vessel. The 38 000 ton aircraft carrier, 8 3 4 feet long with a 900 by 100 foot flight deck, carries 106 planes and will hit speeds of miles per hour. Captain Albert Ware Marshall commands with Commander Theodore Gordon Ellyson as executive officer and a crew around 1000 men.

Glencoe Woman's Club Plans February Charity Play

The Glencoe club met at Ranger Station with Christmas decorations. Miss Portia Friedenbloom led a Round Table Discussion of Christmas while a play Twelve Maids was chosen to raise funds in February. Christmas Eve Festival at Catholic Church

A large Christmas festival at the Catholic church for children will take place on Christmas Eve at 7 30 pm. About 260 children will receive small presents. The Pastorela will be performed and 30 girls in gowns will sing nativity and Bethlehem shepherd songs. Father Giran leads the celebration with a midnight high mass and bilingual sermon.

Senator Amieus A. Jones Dies in Washington

Senator Amieus A. Jones of New Mexico, 65, died in Washington from angina pectoris. A Tennessee native born May 16, 1862, he moved to Las Vegas in 1886, practiced law, served as district attorney, and played a key role in New Mexico politics before rising to the U S Senate in 1916 and 1924. His death opens a gubernatorial appointment for the remainder of the term.

Edward L. Safford of Santa Fe was elected state chairman by the Republican central committee with 80 members present. The meeting also accepted the resignation of longtime chairman Hugh H. Williams and discussed preparations for an early campaign and a state convention to select delegates for the national convention in Kansas City.
