Christmas falls on Sunday this year and general agreement leads to all Alamo Gordo business houses staying closed on Monday for the entire day. Patrons are advised to buy provisions and necessities to last until Tuesday December 27.
Oscar C. Snow prominent Las Cruces banker president of the First National Bank of Las Cruces and longtime farmer died December 1 in Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota after a surgical operation. Born in the Mesilla Valley he helped develop the region and was a 1894 state college graduate survived by wife a daughter two grandchildren and brother W M Snow of Mountain Park.
Mrs. Herbert Haywood directs a Christmas carol program at Muse U Theatre Tularosa Sunday night December 26 starting 8 o clock. Local religious groups participate with Rev Fred Clark reading scriptures and a series of carols solos duets and readings led by a trained chorus. The program ends with a benediction inviting all sacred music lovers to attend and share in the Christmas melodies.
Miss Jane Addams of Chicago now reports that President Coolidge assured a strong effort to secure a treaty outlawing war. She headed a delegation from the Woman's International League for Peace and Freedom which delivered a petition with 30,000 signatures urging the President to press arbitration treaties beginning with France and Great Britain as substitutes for war.
Alamogordo officials report the Moore Construction Company has finished the last excavation on the sewer project. The $75,000 effort, spanning three months, connects the main district the NM School for the Blind and other small outside connections. The town board has long planned the work over the past year.
Gallup New Mexico December 16 1930 The Gallup Electric Light and Power Co plant was sold to the Texas Louisiana Power Co a company already owning plants in Alamogordo and Silver City for 380000 The deal was contingent on a favorable franchise approved by the town trustees at their meeting last night
The Liberty Bakery presents a refined window display with a Christmas tree and an artistic spread of seasonal baked goods. The display showcases fruit cakes nuts and candies to entice shoppers.

The annual Christmas program by pupils of the New Mexico School for the Blind begins at nine o clock the morning of December 26 in the Girls Building parlor. Santa visits stockings on Christmas Eve, gifts are distributed after the program, and a holiday dinner is planned. The public is invited.

County figures show about 25 percent of Otero County car owners have 1928 plates. With ~1600 cars, 400 plates issued so far. Office hours run through December 31, excluding weekends. deadline December 1 for in-county issuance before mail to Santa Fe and potential delay penalty. A deputy collector will assist on business days.
Quincy Massachusetts December fourteenth saw the launch of the Lexington described as the world’s most powerful naval vessel. The 38 000 ton aircraft carrier, 8 3 4 feet long with a 900 by 100 foot flight deck, carries 106 planes and will hit speeds of miles per hour. Captain Albert Ware Marshall commands with Commander Theodore Gordon Ellyson as executive officer and a crew around 1000 men.
The Glencoe club met at Ranger Station with Christmas decorations. Miss Portia Friedenbloom led a Round Table Discussion of Christmas while a play Twelve Maids was chosen to raise funds in February. Mrs. Warner urged member accomplishments by February 26. Next meeting January 14 at Mrs. J. W. Tulley with Fine Arts program by Mrs. Owen Boggess.
A large Christmas festival at the Catholic church for children will take place on Christmas Eve at 7 30 pm. About 260 children will receive small presents. The Pastorela will be performed and 30 girls in gowns will sing nativity and Bethlehem shepherd songs. Father Giran leads the celebration with a midnight high mass and bilingual sermon.
Senator Amieus A. Jones of New Mexico, 65, died in Washington from angina pectoris. A Tennessee native born May 16, 1862, he moved to Las Vegas in 1886, practiced law, served as district attorney, and played a key role in New Mexico politics before rising to the U S Senate in 1916 and 1924. His death opens a gubernatorial appointment for the remainder of the term.
Rear Admiral Thomas V. Magruder tells the House naval committee that officers afloat lack discretion due to excessive Washington orders. He cites detailed flight plans for Clarence Chamberlain’s mail run to the Leviathan and argues for privatized repair yards while noting naval pay inequities and concerns over too many navy yards. He plans to return Monday to continue testimony.
San Miguel County New Mexico on December 17 reports the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe railroads advanced first half 1927 taxes to cover teacher salaries after assessors records delay left the treasury short. The state tax commission authorized warrants in anticipation of payments and the railroads completed tax rolls.
Forest Service clarifies that hunting and fishing in national forests follow the state game laws of the forest’s location. Most forest officers are deputy state wardens and enforce those laws, while some refuges ban hunting and fishing except with special approval from authorities in charge.
Santa Fe December 13 The State Board of Education issues a formal statement outlining its commitment to school welfare efficiency and progress It notes approval of most proposals by the State Superintendent and only two rejections relating to a county superintendent of schools and teacher certification The board provided eight questions to three attorneys and seeks harmony to avoid harming student welfare The statement is signed by board members J A S Bickley Floyd Santistevan Mno Milne H L Kent Isabel Lancaster Eckles and ex officio member R C Dillon
Rotary members and visitors gather for the 16th straight 100 percent luncheon turnout. The Methodist Missionary Society supplied the meal with program by Joe Petty C W Morgan Martin Michel leading songs. Members exchange gifts for Associated Charities and Rev Ludlam promotes Sunday night Christmas program at the courthouse.
On Christmas evening the Methodist Church hosts a Court House program with top Alamogordo talent. Special music features include Mrs. Rattan and performances by Mr. and Mrs. Bryars and the Leaguers. A freewill offering benefits the Superannuated fund. 7 30 p m at the Court House.
The Baptist Church invites a 7 PM Sunday service featuring instrumental and vocal music followed by a White Christmas program. They seek serviceable articles for townspeople in need and donations for Portales New Mexico Orphan's Home. Items should be wrapped. no denomination preference.
Edward L. Safford of Santa Fe was elected state chairman by the Republican central committee with 80 members present. The meeting also accepted the resignation of longtime chairman Hugh H. Williams and discussed preparations for an early campaign and a state convention to select delegates for the national convention in Kansas City.
The Sacrameno Lodge No. 26 J. O. O. F. sold its Lot at 10th and Pennsylvania to W. V. Frye. The two business premises Midway Cafe and Alamo Battery Station sit on the property which adjoins Frye’s other holdings. Frye has not announced his plans publicly.
The Presbyterian Church sets a busy Christmas schedule with a 10 o'clock service, 11 o'clock sermon, 7 o'clock evening service, and a Wednesday prayer meeting. A special Christmas program directed by Mrs A E Thomas features Sunday school classes, choir music, and a Foreign Missions offering.
