Discharged Soldier Dies After Jump From Moving Train
John Shankland about 27 jumped from No 4 of a running train four miles north of Quiaresa on Tuesday night. The train did not stop and he was found by passers-by. An inquest was held by Justice Birbs Fields of Tularosa with Deputy Fidel Sanchez. Alamogordo Army Air Field took over the case and prepared the body for return to Cleveland Ohio. A man named Burn, discharged from Fort Bliss, is being questioned in connection with Shankland’s death. Shankland carried the dead man’s barnke bag and his death is under investigation as a possible homicide or accidental death.
