Town Boards Plans for Ball Park Expansion and Gas System Stance

The Town Board of Trustees discussed expanding the ball park with adjoining land to form an amusement park for county fairs and athletic events. They would acquire blocks 114, 119 and 120 if affordable, and allow organizations to join in improvement plans. The board ordered strict curfew enforcement after Jan 1 and set values on reverted sewer lots. Petro­leum Gas Co proposed municipal gas via liquid gas, but the clerk was told the town does not plan to establish such a system.

Mrs Gazley of Mescalero Found Dead

Mrs Ma bel Gazley was found dead in the rear of her Mescalero store by a night observer. A coroner's jury ruled death from unknown causes, with suspected heart attack. no foul play. Survived by daughter Mrs Paul Walters of Albuquerque and an estranged husband in Austin. Brother Mr Ferguson and wife visited from El Paso. Body sent to Tyrone New Mexico for burial.

Southern New Mexico Music Clinic Announces Festival Details

The Southern New Mexico Music Association held its first annual Clinic at State College on Saturday December 10 with about 35 educators and 150 students forming four clinic choirs and a band. About 40 local musicians attended from Alamogordo. The festival is set for State College on March 31 and April 1 with about 20 SNM schools expected to participate and invitations to nearby Texas schools.

Star of Hope Christmas Pageant at NMSB

The Star of Hope Christmas Pageant returns to the New Mexico School for the Blind auditorium on Sunday evening December 18 at 6 oclock. No admission charge. Students portray shepherds and the nativity scene with elaborate costumes and scenery. Carols will be sung with Hammond Orwan accompaniment.

White Sands pamphlet published on the National Monument

The News editor received a copy of The Story of the Great White Sands by Tom Charles custodian of the White Sands National Monument. The 16 page pamphlet includes a Nat Campbell poem foreword on origin and importance, selenite lakebed, life in the sands, mirages, geology, and invites visitors, with 15 views and priced at 25 cents.

Alamogordo Chamber Plans Baptist Convention Welcome

The Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce board met at Plaza Cafe to arrange support for the State Baptist Training Union convention to be held June 6 7. Rev Earle R Keating urged a January meeting with State Secretary Rev Geo F Elam and will attend Albuquerque executive committee sessions carrying a welcome letter from the chamber.

Fur harvest begins in Sacramento Mountains

Pelting season of fur bearing animals at fur farms in the Sacramento Mountains has begun this week. Harvey and Calentine farms near James Canyon produce several hundred silver fox furs yearly. Cecil Nelson pelted 35 silver fox this season, and Wiley Smith of High Rolls has pelted three mink since starting last year. Fur production is becoming an extensive and successful industry in the Sacramento Mountains.

Glee Club Christmas Pageant At High School Auditorium

The glee club will present a Christmas Tidings program of carols Thursday morning December 22 at 11 o clock in the high school auditorium. An all male choir of over fifty voices will sing for about one hour. Rev J E Fuller nationally known radio evangelist will broadcast Sunday December 18 at 6 30 PM on 126 stations discussing Jewish persecutions in Germany.

Coronado Pageant Dates Assigned in Three New Mexico Towns

The Coronado Cuarto Centennial pageant plan assigns the first week of September for Coronado area towns Alamo Gordo Tularosa and Carrizozo in Lincoln and Otero counties to present an Apache War themed event as part of a statewide celebration.

A high school senior, she is class secretary treasurer, Thalian Club member, school newspaper staffer, Junior Woman’s Club president, Rainbow Girls officer, and an accomplished tap dancer.

Thalian Club Holds December Meeting with Christmas Stunts

The Thalian Club of Alamo Gordo High School met Monday night December 12 for a regular session. Instead of business, members watched Christmas stunts by groups, then Santa Claus distributed small gifts and candy to each member.

Billing dates corrected for town accounts north and south of Tenth Street

The town office reports meter reading and account billing for areas north of Tenth Street and College addition three blocks south of Tenth Street will occur on the first of each month. The remaining accounts will be billed on the 16th. Next billing for the south of Tenth Street will cover 45 days and render January 15 with a $3.00 minimum. After that, monthly bills revert to a $2.00 minimum.

Inter-Class Basketball Tournament Champions Named Seniors Again

The annual Round-Robin event saw the Seniors beat Juniors and Sophomores, and defeat the Freshmen twice to claim a third straight title. Juniors beat Sophomores, leaving a tight second-place race among the other teams and praise for Freshmen players. Coaches selected 15 standouts for the high school squad with more moving up as readiness grows.
