Mrs Sanders, famed for her cake baking, now heads the domestic science department in Tularosa public schools. At a spring picnic a young girl expressed a wish for a piece of Mrs Sanders cake, noting every child has long enjoyed her baking.
At the regular meeting Tuesday evening the Pythian Sisters elected officers for the year. The Ladies Aid of the Presbyterian church met last Thursday with Mrs. W. E. Warren. Officers named for the coming year are Mrs. F. Rolland as president and Mrs. J. W. Armstrong as vice president. Refreshments followed the meeting and attendees enjoyed a pleasant hour.
W R Forbes died at his Albuquerque home last Wednesday after years of service as deputy U S Marshal. He was once employed in the Lumber company offices before joining the marshal's office. A note mentions gifts from Prince store including kid gloves and boxes, while the Baptist Ladies Aid offers plain sewing and quilting.
The Otero County spelling and oration contest was held despite heavy snowfall. Winners included Laura Pace Alamogordo Andrew Hendrix Cloudcroft Christine Wohlenberg Della Porter Emma Hilburn Tul a rosa in spelling Kimberlin Carlisle Logwood in oration Julia Johnson Alamogordo Fred Kronenberg Tularosa Ellen Osby Tularosa Lee Walker Chalmer Bowers won in oration. Total receipts 28.20 with medals and various expenses listed.
The record lists students named for perfect attendance from first through fifth grades led by Corrine Bennett and Mae Buck among others. The piece notes ad purchases for the field and track meet, a language room odor joke, student paper efforts, educational films by Bob Woodworth, basketball hopes from the Alamo All-Stars, and upcoming exams with emphasis on oratory.
Rev Ed LeBreton of Grace M E Church joined Victor Benedette to Bila Zeah of El Paso and Joseph Schrieber to Carolyne Barnes of McPherson Kan. The ceremonies occurred in County Clerk Thomas's office.
Otero county sees state levy rise from 12 to 13.5 mills as New Mexico joins statehood raising taxes while county commissioners cut local rates. A New Alamo theatre screening Troy and film highlights draws crowds with upcoming showings on Tuesdays Fridays and Saturdays.
Alice Teed hosts a social evening with games and music plus refreshments. Royal Arch Chapter elects officers for the year including High Priest Jed R. Yale and King J. L. Lawson, with committees named for installation duties.
A large audience enjoyed the Meistersingers at the Christian church Wednesday evening. The performance met the high merit the group is known for, drawing praise from residents who appreciate refined entertainment. The Presbyterian women’s lyre course sponsored the event.
Governor McDonald reappoints the state mounted police with Fornoff as captain in command. Jno A Bear of Deming becomes sergeant second in command, C F Lambert and A H ter named regulars, J H McHush and J A Street listed as specials, with Gus Kool as clerk.
The New Mexico State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts prepares a monthly College Course edition to connect with New Mexico residents. It will share research from agronomy engineering domestic science and the experiment station and answer farmers inquiries. The Courier will publish free to all residents and begin with about ten thousand circulation before expanding. Roliene Banner is reported very ill with pneumonia in Las Cruces. Special bargain prices on dolls at Warren's.
In Cloudcroft December reports say promoters see strong potential for a Cloudcroft Pecos Valley electric line. C C Carroll and Wm Morgan, after a tour with local officials, expressed optimism and pledged to seek a right of way down Cox Canon or James Canyon. Close by, Mrs. C F Barrett died suddenly at her Cloudcroft home Friday night. Funeral Tuesday.
