Man Held For Selling Booze To The Indians
Quinano Maez pleaded guilty before U. S. Commissioner Tom Charles to sale and possession of intoxicating liquor and selling it to Indians of the Mescalero Reservation. Indian Agent O M Boggess and Indian police arrested Maez after he sold liquor to the same Indian party three times in one day. Maez’s bond was set at 1000 and he is kept in jail until bond is furnished.

George Kent son of Dr H L Kent president of the State College and a post graduate was selected as New Mexico’s Rhodes scholar for 1900 announced in Albuquerque by Dr C B Hodgin chair of the Rhodes Scholarship committee. Kent, a little over 20, was among 32 American students chosen from states with universities to study at Oxford University next October for the two year scholarship.

Man Killed by Falling Log at Mescalero Reservation Camp
Lem Sweetin about 35 was killed Tuesday at the Crane and Crane sawmill on the Mescalero Indian Reservation when a log fell while unloading. He slipped while placing a block, crushing his head. He left a wife, two children, a brother Irwin in Tularosa, and had moved from Clayton, Oklahoma seven months earlier to work at Mill No. 12.
