Barela elected state GOP chair at New Mexico convention
Otero County Commissioner Amy Barela was elected December 7 to a two year term as New Mexico state chair of the Republican Party defeating Valencia County GOP Chairman John Brenna 157 to 58. The vote occurred during the biennial convention at the Truth or Consequences Civic Center. Barela, 49, owns North 54 Salvage in Alamogordo and previously served as 1st vice chair. she succeeds Steve Pearce who did not seek reelection after serving since 2018.
