Secretary J D Clements receives a strong letter from L M Lyon president of Lyon Bros Co New York packers and shippers detailing a cantaloupe growing and shipping contract for Alamogordo farmers. The letter stresses soil cultivation over irrigation and outlines crate design ice arrangements and future contract steps.
The article contrasts Lyons Bros. Co letter on cantaloupe farming with President Roosevelts annual message. It notes plans for field work in Alamogordo and Las Cruces and advice on early plowing and lime applications to improve crop quality. It also surveys Roosevelts call for stronger federal corporation and banking oversight to curb overcapitalization and stock manipulation.
The Santa Fe meeting last Saturday united prominent Republicans and Democrats in advancing New Mexico statehood. Otero county showed strong turnout as delegates planned a Washington delegation of 20 to 30 influential citizens, to be chosen by Governor Curry and L. D. Lowe. A finance committee was formed to fund the Washington effort, with county representation. J. L. Lawson of Alamogordo was tasked to raise funds in Otero County.
Clarence De Witt 19 of Forestville Ont died in Alamogordo Friday November 20 with funeral at Alamo cemetery December 1. J W Schoonover 24 of College addition died December 1 and was sent to Easton Illinois for interment with Odd Fellows escort. Local courthouse work includes arch replacement on second story annex roof painting and jail floor replacement. Alfred Walters son of Professor Walters recovered from a broken leg and danger from blood poisoning.
The usual Sunday service at St. John's Mission will be at 11 a.m. and 7:23 p.m. with Frederick W. Pratt officiating. The morning sermon is titled The Study of the Scriptures. A Christmas tree for children will be featured, with training and carol rehearsals under way. All are invited to Sunday services.
Revival services at the Opera house with Evangelist McGhee of Lordsburg draw large crowds. Twenty five converts in five nights, with Baptism for new members at 9 45 p m Sunday at the Baptist church. The revival will continue one week longer and the public is invited to attend nightly and Sunday services.
Cattle receipts were light. beef steers up 10 to 25 cents, cows 10 to 20 cents higher. Daily run about 10,000 head with Colorado New Mexico and Panhandle offerings. Feeding lambs 4.75 to 5.26, range sheep and lambs supply shrinking. top lambs 6.00, yearlings 5. and wethers 4.75. Representative sales include Booles Otis 410 wethers at 4.50 and 203 lambs at 5.00.
A vicious dog attacked a valuable pup owned by H. Barringer, tearing out an eye. The injured pup was later shot to end its suffering.
